But when you get close, your heart contracts, from feelings of annoyance and lack of understanding - everything crumbles and falls apart. Is it really impossible to restore such a treasure with such flows of tourists? I was there for the first time in 18, and when I arrived in 2023, I realized that nothing had changed - on the contrary, more collapsed and crumbled. The monastery itself is active, even services are held. At the entrance, there are shelters for tourists, both heads and legs, which is also pleasing.

The monastery in New Athos is located at the foot of Mount Athos. A beautiful place with great views.
The monastery was founded in 1875 by the monks of the Russian monastery of St. Panteleimon. Tourists are not allowed on the territory of the monastery itself, but you can walk around the park near the monastery and visit the temple freely.
The monastery was built near the ancient temple of the Apostle Simon the Canaanite, where his holy relics rest under a bushel. Not far from the temple there is a cave in which, according to legend, Simon Kananite retired and prayed. Inside, the temple is filled with various frescoes and images of icons. The murals stretch from the very floor to the vaults of the domes, it seems that literally every millimeter of the walls and ceilings is painted.
