We were with my wife and son in July 2024, we liked it, the size of the caves, huge vaults, the lake are impressive, it's very atmospheric, and when Bach was turned on, the atmosphere became even more fascinating) It's cool in the cave, somewhere +14-+15 I walked in a T-shirt, it was comfortable, my wife and son froze a little, the tour was long-about an hour and a half, so be patient, do not buy permission for photo and video shooting, no one there will give you a hand, take pictures for your health!
A wonderful tram. Huge atmospheric grottoes. Turquoise lakes. Long, high bridges. Stalactites and stalagmites. Fabulous outlines of the underworld, the play of shadows from colored spotlights. Clean saturated air. All this was very impressive and etched into my memory. I recommend it! In summer, add about half an hour of standing in line at the ticket office to the time of the tour.
This is not the first time in this place. The cave is above all praise very beautiful. The guides perfectly tell the story of the discovery and exploration of this cave. Overshadowing all this splendor is the dining room on the second floor, in which the food is terribly disgusting, as well as the dining room + opposite the New Athos Cave - in their terrible-tasting food, hair was found right inside the cooked casserole.
An interesting tourist place. A mini-subway train takes you to the cave from the surface. It's cool inside (sweaters need sweaters, but you can rent blankets). Everything in the cave is equipped for excursions. The guide tells an interesting story, gives time for a photo. In general, the visit was informative. The only thing is better to get to the opening or to the next session (as we did), when we went out there was a huge number of people in the lobby - apparently excursions arrived.
I didn't lower my grade for the cave itself. She is beautiful, very big, beautiful. Not to say that the tour (history) is very fascinating, we were not told any unusual historical facts about the cave. Be prepared that it is cool in the cave and take warm clothes. You can rent a plaid right in front of the entrance.
A huge disadvantage: tickets cannot be bought online. You need to stand in a huge queue for two hours, and you will buy tickets only for the session in 3-4 hours. When we were there, people who had been standing in line with their children for two hours turned around and left in front of the cash register. My nerves couldn't stand it) but many people were standing because they had been driving for a long time, plus they had already spent time queuing. And the whole point is that the guides buy without waiting in line for the group. Consequently, they take most of the tickets, and people have to wait for more late sessions. Of course, there you can go to the waterfall, to the monastery. But if you are with young children, either refuse such an excursion (not every kid can cope with waiting from 4 hours), or go with a group.
And I was also cheated out of 100 rubles at the checkout. I gave 1500 for 100, while we were standing in line for 2 hours, I counted them more than once) the cashier counted the money twice in front of me, saying that 100 was missing (believe me, it can't be). Later, her husband said that she had one 100 bill in her hand. I didn't figure it out, because the queue was so nervous. But it's a shame, not even for 100 rubles, but for such an attitude. Taking advantage of the fact that people are already on edge, so tired(the heat, the stuffiness, standing in this queue for so long on your feet), they cheat, although not for such a large amount. It's ugly
The largest structure in size and beauty. Thanks to nature and ancestors for creating such a complex. The staff did a great job - keeping it in working order is a lot of work. I understand everything, there is a certain amount of time to complete the route, but I would like more information during the tour.
I will not take photos, there are just a lot of them. Do I recommend visiting? K O N E H N O!
The place is amazing in its scale and uniqueness! Especially when you find out that no explosive devices or heavy equipment were used here. All this wealth is created by water and time! There is never winter here, as well as summer: the constant temperature is around 14 degrees Celsius. There are huge cave halls and lakes around the incredible beauty, charming with amazing colors and shapes.
The feeling of weight / hardness / support of the surrounding rocks and the awareness of "Wow! I am inside this hulk" borders on delight from the finest work of nature, which grows cone-shaped (like magic crystals) drop by drop and year after year >>> stalactites, stalagmites and stalagnates.
Permanent tour groups are organized for the entire complex. Tourists leave in trailers, and the walking route itself is accompanied by 1.5 hours in one go.
The guides immerse you in history and science in an interesting and informative way! And you can also feel the love of the workers and the careful attitude towards the truly unique natural attractions of New Athos! I involuntarily, but gratefully, adopted this trembling state
Thanks! ✨✨✨
Unbelievable! A very fascinating sight! Separately, I would like to mention the guides and those who create a unique feeling of magic! The underworld, with its mysteries and riddles, the sounds of drops and the silence of stone... Everything is thought out to the smallest detail! Leaving the first hall, you hear a male ethno-choir, polyphony and strength... After that, the Great Bach and his brightest Toccata! And completing the route, at the incredible waterfall of stone, you will be guided by the voice of the magnificent Hibla Gerzmava, flying through the acoustic space and pipes of the stone organ ...
Great!
But don't forget socks and warm blouses :)
It is not the largest in terms of volume or length among the caves of Abkhazia, but it is definitely the most comfortable. I visited as part of an excursion to New Athos, so I did not have to stand at the ticket office, they brought me to the cave at the beginning of the excursion (there is only their own guide), gave out tickets, and almost immediately went to board the train (it looks like a subway).
When boarding the train, you can purchase a blanket. In August, the temperature in the cave was about + 15 (it always seems to be constant), pleasant coolness, it's good in shorts and a T-shirt, for small children you can probably use a blanket to insure yourself or take something of your own.
It's not a long train ride, 5-10 minutes, the whole visit is an hour and a half.
The cave is clean, the passages (bridges, crossings) are wide, you can take pictures, there is a lake. There is a small backlight, sometimes music is turned on. The guide tells you detailed information, you can hear it well everywhere (the speakers are well positioned), the presentation of the material was a bit "theatrical". In one of the halls they offered to buy souvenirs (calcites), there was no wine tasting.
I definitely recommend a visit.
It fascinates with its scale, I really liked it. The trailer for delivery to the cave , as if you were riding on a cart, but you can stand it for 4 minutes, it was fun) inside the cave, everyone took pictures and listened. We bought the tickets about 40 minutes before departure, it's fine, there are a lot of people, but we didn't have to wait long. You don't have to dress too warmly, we took only sweatshirts with us and were all in shorts, we didn't freeze at all, I just saw that people were in jeans, jackets, warm tank tops. It's unnecessary. At the entrance, if necessary, you can rent a plaid for 100 rubles. In general, I recommend you to visit!
Of course, it is always interesting to visit such places! This volume, size, power, created by nature, conquers unequivocally. The only thing was that switching lights and stopping waiting was a little annoying - they waited until the previous batch of tourists and their guide passed.(Slightly incorrect time allocation, and the kids were freezing).
***For those with blood pressure, I do not recommend visiting these places. (I was shocked, I was even scared)
The size of the cave is impressive. Organized passages and musical accompaniment create a special atmosphere. The guide tells us about the peculiarities of this cave in an interesting way. The large number of people on the tour slightly blurs the impression. Moving from one point to another is delayed and you have to wait for laggards. But in general, there is no reason to regret. A visit to the cave is mandatory for vacationers in Abkhazia.
The New Athos Cave in Abkhazia is a unique and informative place that is worth a visit. The cave impresses with its scale and beauty, as well as an interesting history.
The entrance to the cave by train, from the time of the USSR, which immerses you more into the atmosphere of this place.
the guide tells a very interesting story.
If you have the opportunity to visit Abkhazia, be sure to visit this amazing place.
A good place to visit with children. I was not impressed myself, but the child (11 years old) was delighted. On the way, a huge queue at the ticket office was alarmed, but tickets were purchased very quickly, so do not be afraid of queues.
I especially liked the last room with music, it was very atmospheric.
For photo fixation, a shooting permit is issued, at a cost of 50 rubles.
The tour may be a little difficult for children to perceive, but it was interesting for me to listen, and the sight of glowing deposits underground was enough for the children))
A rather unique place in the vast expanses of the former USSR. Wagons are lowered into the cave. A comfortable and interesting excursion, especially for tourists with children. And, of course, the opportunity to take a 1.5 hour break from the sweltering Abkhazian heat.
Cons: it is better to arrive in the morning, much in advance of the expected hour of visiting the cave. Tickets for the root are bought by tour companies for large groups of tourists and you have to wait for an "empty seat" in the queue at the entrance for an average of 1.5 - 2 hours. Sometimes there are no tickets at all. Waiting, naturally in the heat, outdoors.
There is a toilet, moderately dirty and small. It is completely not designed for a passability of several thousand tourists per day.
The lack of its own parking. Rather, there is a parking lot, but it has been seized by local merchants. The cost of placing a car is 250 rubles.
I'm not a fan of such places, but the cave was very impressive in its scale. The guide competently and consistently told about the history of the cave, many beautiful locations. I really liked it! Of course, there are disadvantages, firstly parking, in order to leave the car for 1.5 hours you need to pay 250 rubles, secondly - a huge number of people, especially when they come in groups. There is a very huge queue.
It was my first cave in my life, and it's just a delight 😍 must-visit!
It is unlikely that the photos will convey the whole atmosphere. You need to feel it yourself. Especially for those who have never been to such places.
The cave has high humidity and a constant temperature of +15, it is always cool, and it breathes great.
Entrance ticket (on 02/21/24) 700r + 50r photo video shooting. Excursions are conducted on time, usually in a group of 100 people (no more). The duration is one hour, the length of the route is 2 km.
The scale is impressive of course ❤
An incredibly beautiful natural formation and transformed by man for visiting excursions.
High arches, stalactites, stalagmites, sinkholes, lakes. All this causes delight and surprise.
Payment in cash, the cost of the tour is 700 rubles per person.
The duration is 1.5 hours.
I was at 13h on 11/19.24. The guide was surprisingly charming, competent, attentive. Thank you for the interesting story about the New Athos Cave..I recommend.
A unique place not only in Abkhazia but also in the world! The huge and beautiful halls of the cave will impress you. You will get some emotions from one of the smallest subways in the world, whose trailers take and bring visitors. Be sure to visit if you haven't been yet, you won't regret it! Tip, even in summer, take a plaid for rent or a warm sweater with you.
The cave is gorgeous. My husband went there, he said it was very beautiful and unusual. I recommend it, a lot of impressions. There are many interesting views and places, they tell interesting stories. The guide buys the tickets themselves, and you go with the ticket
A very large-scale natural cave. You immediately think about the adventures of Tom Sawyer. I can't believe that her discovery happened by accident. The route through the cave is very well equipped. Excursions are conducted in groups of 40-50 people. The presence of shops on the route turned out to be a big and pleasant surprise. They helped us out a lot, as they were with elderly companions and children. The tour lasts about 40 minutes, and plaids are offered at the entrance for 100 rubles. It is quite comfortable to wrap yourself in them, especially in the initial colder halls.
Classics of the genre, where is Abkhazia without the New Athos cave? Everyone should visit her. We were in October, there were no problems with attendance and tickets, that's all 👍
Abkhazia is a real paradise for speleologists, because there are a large number of caves and karst formations, including three of the deepest caves in the world: Verevkina (2212 m), Krubera (2199 m) and Sarma (1830 m). They are a series of karst wells connected by loopholes and galleries, which are practically impossible for an ordinary person to get into. Only high-class speleologists with special equipment are able to do this.
The New Athos Cave is a unique natural monument of Abkhazia. One of the largest caves open to the public not only in the region, but also worldwide.
The cave was found in 1961 by Givi Shalvovich Smyr, the discoverer and later director of the New Athos Cave. However, visitors' access to the cave became possible only in 1975.
The cave complex contains 11 halls in total. 6 halls are sightseeing, it is possible to get here any day. One is scientific, only specialists have access here. The remaining halls open their doors only according to a certain schedule.
We have not been in the cave, as in Abkhazia, for 7 years...Some things have changed, of course. And when you live there nearby, the impressions are completely different, much better, because you begin to recognize and love this place. And the place is truly wonderful! The cave itself is easily located, because it is located on the main road, if you drive away from the shore towards the mountain. A large building was built, on the 1st floor there is a ticket office (although the entrance is already 700 rubles / person (and photographing in a separate box office is 50 rubles). In the cave, the main stalactites and stalagmites were illuminated in a different way, special music was turned on in each large hall (from the Terek choir to Bach)... They changed the lamps to those that prevent the spread of moss and lichens. And they began to sell pieces of crystals in the middle of the route to those who wish (it seems to me that these are not stalactites, of course)) so that people would not spoil the exhibits. The lights in each hall are arranged in such a way that they automatically turn off in time, prompting those who were about to leave. It is very beautiful and impressive, everything is well maintained, the train is in perfect order, wonderful! On the 3rd floor of the building there is a small cafe, oriental coffee and honey cake (homemade and the most delicious really right!!) - 5 points! And the view from the balcony... Tangerines, persimmons, bananas and roses are all around...A fairy tale! Thanks!! We really want to go there again!!! 🙏 ❤️
The whole family enjoyed the tour! The children were delighted. The excursion route is approximately 1.5 -2 hours, accompanied by a guide along the way. The cave impresses with its beauty, the cave itself is divided into "halls". In each of them, the guide stops and talks about her. I recommend you to visit!
A very beautiful cave, impressive in its scale! High vaults, lakes, stalactites, stalagmites, grottos. Observation decks are equipped. Everything is for the convenience of visitors. Definitely worth a visit!
The cave is interesting and beautiful. The queue to buy a ticket in July 2024 was already before the opening, it stood for 30 minutes, but it's better to walk like this until the tour buses arrive, then there are even more queues. Before entering, there is a warning that it is forbidden to shoot without payment and they offer to buy a ticket for the opportunity to take photos and shoot videos inside the cave. In fact, no one checks, so you don't have to buy this ticket (it costs 50 rubles).
The caves are wonderful, big, interesting, the longest, etc. but the guide tells without a soul and is not too interesting, but they hurry everywhere.
I will not write about the name of the cave in Sochi so as not to advertise.
They are much smaller there, but the guide tells a very interesting and fascinating story. The main phrase is that they reduce your aging there by 10 minutes. and after that, many people want to stay there, even I am far from thin, I was ready to go back through the cave))
It is beautiful, impressive, worth a visit, after riding on a steam train, you drive right into the cave itself and there is beauty, you show fountains, and enjoy the coolness, you were in August +14 , you liked it very much
After the trip to Lykhny village, our path was aimed at a trip to New Athos. In summer, due to the high workload, it was not possible to visit the cave. And we hoped that this time we would still be able to get there.
I had been to the cave only once before, in my early childhood, so I have few special details and visual memories of this place.
At the entrance to the cave, we had no idea how the walk would go. It all started with the fact that we got into a cave subway car and moved towards the sightseeing route. Arriving at the "station", we got out of the trailer and went to the first hall.
When the whole group entered the first hall, the lights went out, and the guide began to broadcast about the history of the cave's discovery and its scale and about various interesting moments. The sound came from special speakers, so everyone could hear the guide, even those who were standing in the distance. And various parts of the cave, which the guide spoke about, were illuminated by bright spotlights.
We stopped at each hall to listen to an interesting summary about this hall and each member of the group could take a photo. During the transition between the halls of the cave, we were accompanied by Abkhazian folk calm music, which allowed us to immerse ourselves even more in the hike through the cave.
In total, the walk through the cave was about 1.5-2 hours, but left behind great photos and pleasant memories!
Before that, I was in caves, but they weren't like that compared to this one. The cave is large and very picturesque. Walking along the bridges, the tour in the cave is also accompanied not only by the stories of the guide, but also by pleasant music, which adds an atmosphere while walking around the cave. But it's too cold, you need to stock up on warm clothes, you need to walk very carefully past this, the bridges are slippery.
Ambiguous impressions of the visit - a one-time visit, delivery to the beginning of the route and back is interesting, on a small train in a tunnel, a mini metro, it's cool inside, plus 14, you need a sweater, or they give you a plaid for rent for 100 rubles, in places it's slippery, better in sneakers, beautiful, unusual, but very stretched time, 1 hour 20 minutes, is very long, despite the fact that almost half of this time is waiting on the observation decks, there are six of them, walking slowly, it would be better to make an audio guide and an independent passage and an independent departure on the next train back, a little sorry for the lost time, but it's worth visiting once. Admission is only for cash or transfer, there is Wi-Fi at the checkout, the price is 700 rubles. There are young people who spend without a ticket on the next train for the same amount, tickets at the ticket office were already sold for the next excursion in 20 minutes, and so they did not have to wait, they immediately went on an excursion.
The impression of the tour is strongly influenced by the work of the guide. A very obsessive woman who talks about the cave only in tourist stop areas. After you go underground, you will all be gathered in a small area where half as many people would feel cramped. Then the guide will begin his story about the strict rules of behavior. You will move between the sights in silence, it would be much more comfortable to slowly walk around listening to the guide's story, but according to incomprehensible rules introduced by dilapidated old ladies, this is not possible. It is also impossible to leave the tour, because the path is illuminated only where the guide is, so that you do not leave alone without her.
There is a warning at the entrance to the cave that there is a constant temperature of +15, but it is much colder there. Because of the dampness, you will be haunted by the smell of rotten socks.
In reality, this tour should be conducted for a group of no more than 15-20 people, then it will be comfortable and informative, but not for 50-60 people, when there is really nowhere to even stand, let alone consider something. Well, the smell of fumes from some tourists combined with the smell of stale socks will be the cherry on the cake!
I liked everything.
Except for the train, it's stuffy and noisy.
Those who were there earlier say that the cave has been transformed.
A tour guide would be even more fun.
It's worth a visit.
It is better to arrive in the morning for the opening, there is less queue.
You don't have to buy a ticket for photography and video shooting, no one checks.
Take something to throw on, a jacket, a windbreaker, it's cool enough in the cave, and comfortable shoes.
One of the places to visit after visiting Abkhazia. For information: 1. tickets are sold only for cash; there are ATMs nearby, but I have no idea how they work; if you get there yourself, it's better in the morning until the excursions arrive, they take tickets without waiting in line, respectively, you can greatly move the time to the right; a ticket to shoot in a cave is thrown away by me); a guide in if available; take warm clothes (damp and cool). Have a good experience!
The place is beautiful, it was in summer, it was in autumn, it was many times, I advise you.
Nature, air, food!!!
The Athos cave is a must-visit, the price is normal.
We visit the monastery, the temple and the cathedral, period.
I have never liked places of pilgrimage (one-time) for thousands of tourists, with queues at the ticket office and, in this case, directly into the cave. This visit was no different from the 2 or 3 previous ones :) We didn't go to the cave. But we walked along the ancient road to the fortress shown in the photo. It's very cool, sometimes even stunning. And the fact that you are moving where you want, and not where it is accepted, gives you even more delight. We were in September, and, nevertheless, it was the kingdom of the mountain summer. Dusty blackberry bushes, in some places huge trees completely covered with vines, when it's just not clear what kind of tree is inside the cocoon. A village with both flowering and fruiting "fences", pomegranates and small tangerines on the branches... The atmosphere is beyond all expectations... Well, the views are better to see than to read here.
And God be with her, this cave :)
An unforgettable experience. In the first two halls, the height and depth of the cave take your breath away. Every room is getting more interesting. The time of the tour flies by unnoticed. I want to warn you, be sure to take sweatshirts with you, do not wear flip-flops and sandals, you need closed shoes, because climbing up and down in wet sandals (it is very wet and cold in the cave) is just extreme. All attention is not on the cave, but on how not to slip out of the flip-flops
Definitely a place to visit!
Here I want to say thank you, everything is just wonderful, atmospheric! The tour takes place with a guide who will tell and show you.
The trailers that take you to the cave are a separate touch of adventure.
The caves are amazing in their size. The description and photos do not convey the grandeur of this place. It's really worth a visit. The guide tells stories related to caves and is ready to answer questions.
When visiting, it is worth considering that the temperature inside the caves is much lower than outside - a down jacket is certainly not needed, but a warm windbreaker or hoodie will not hurt. Although at the entrance they rent something like a plaid, warm enough.
It is better to pay more attention to shoes - in addition to being cool in caves, it is also quite damp, and in some places water just flows. As a result, it is slippery in places, so it is better not to go there in flip-flops. Ideally, sports sandals or sneakers.
I liked it, atmospheric, unusual, I really liked the acoustic music. There are difficulties with acquiring tickets, it is necessary to arrive early, preferably before the opening, because tourists buy tickets in bulk.
We were on an excursion in October 2024 with our family, it is an unforgettable experience and a powerful atmosphere. An excellent guide, and we got to the depths of the cave by mini train, bought small souvenirs inside the cave. There was an excursion for more than an hour. I recommend it for a visit.
Very beautiful. There is a route in the cave - paths, bridges, observation decks. During the tour, the backlight turns on. The most beautiful thing is in the last room. On a large scale, it takes your breath away. The delivery method to the cave is also interesting: metro! The real thing, only reduced. The only one in all of Abkhazia! :-)
It is worth visiting this place. There are probably only a few such objects in the world.
An excellent picturesque place, the passage through the halls is illuminated, beautiful formations and cave lakes are highlighted.
The group is accompanied by a guide through the cave, tells about this attraction and about the halls.
A freaky atmospheric place! If anyone is around, be sure to stop by. There will be no claustrophobia, huge underground halls, the guide tells you everything interestingly. I definitely recommend it
A place to visit is a must when visiting Abkhazia. The cave fascinates with its distinctive appearance. A walk through the cave is accompanied by national folklore, and the story of the formation and discovery of this cave also complements the impression.
An extremely interesting place to visit, created by nature. The organization of the process leaves much to be desired - a waiting room without air conditioning, a paid toilet in the mud, be careful - the time in Abkhazia is the same, but the clock in Mobile phones jumps, so the date of the visit on the ticket may not be clear. What the employees forget to tell you, at first you just hear a shout and go away - this is not your time. In caves, it is always up to + 10 degrees, be sure to take warmer things, otherwise after the heat outside, the tour goes for 1 hour, there is a chance of getting sick. I do not recommend it to small children, it is damp, cold and incomprehensible to them.
But. If you don't get hung up on poor service, everything is just fine - ancient Colchis is incredibly beautiful and charismatic!!!😘
Be sure to visit the cave! A very interesting tour, the lighting is super! A huge cave of 6 halls! Delight! The price of the visit is acceptable. Minus the paid parking.
A truly unique place where you can feel like a real caver. Very beautiful halls, an interesting tour. I advise you to take a jacket with you, as it is quite cool in the cave.
We visited the cave in August 2024, we really liked it - the narration, musical accompaniment, lighting 👍 1.5 hours flew by quickly. The only recommendation is to buy a ticket in advance, it is very long in summer, you can stand in the heat for 30 minutes and buy a ticket for the tour, which will be in 2 hours.
One of the best caves I've ever seen. It is very long, spacious halls, there are underground lakes, stalactites, etc. One of the disadvantages is the extreme stuffiness on the train that takes visitors to the cave, due to the large number of groups if you come in high season.
