Museums in Georgia are overpriced and I always get out of them very disappointed. The National Gallery of Georgia develops over two levels and, while one might still find it interesting to have a look, it is really difficult to understand how can such a lively country with sunny landscapes, good food and nice people, can produce this art which is made mainly of grotesque figures, or depressive portraits of the city or the people.
We were with the whole family in early August 2024.
These are excellent exhibition spaces with wonderful expositions, 4 stars because THERE are FEW. We expected more.
With the richness of the Georgian cultural heritage, it is a straight "thin soup". That's why there are few visitors. It does not pull at the national .... Slight disappointment ...
There were also exhibitions of very minor artists. As a result, everything together is not a "must have"
Thanks to the curators and good luck, further raising the bar!
For a deeper understanding of the culture, spirit and mood of Georgia, it is strongly recommended to visit two galleries: the National Gallery and the Gallery of Modern Art, which are located nearby. However, it is better to take a short break between visits to feel the difference between generations. Your emotions will certainly be exciting! Personally, I was deeply impressed and surprised by the talent of Georgian artists and sculptors!

It is an amazing place where art and culture are intertwined in a unique atmosphere.
The gallery staff is very friendly and ready to answer any questions, which makes the visit even more enjoyable.
The exhibitions are well organized, and each work tells its own story. The works of famous Georgian artists, which reflect the rich history and traditions of the country, are especially impressive.
In general, visiting the National Gallery of Georgia is not only an opportunity to enjoy art, but also to immerse yourself in the culture and history of this wonderful country.
We visited the gallery in January 2025, at that moment one floor is open, Pirosmani's works occupy about half of the exhibition (the staff warned when paying for tickets that one floor was open), but it's still expensive. Admission costs 25 lari per person, and a student was paid 10 lari. There are few paintings, but there are several sculptures. If you have free time, you can take a look.
A huge number of works in a variety of techniques. It was not possible to see Pirosmani on the second floor, but the upper three floors were struck by their composition and abundance!
You should definitely come to this museum, if only because there are paintings by famous Georgian artists: Niko Pirosmani and Lado Gudiashvili. In addition, we got acquainted with the wonderful works of other Georgian artists and sculptors, which we did not know about before. The museum has various changing exhibitions. Italian art and contemporary art were presented during our visit.
Two remarks:
1. The entrance to the museum is on the back side. We thought it was closed, then we figured out to bypass it.
2. Who is not familiar with the work of Niko Pirosmani, but has heard the song "A million scarlet Roses" ... This is a song about the artist's unhappy love for the French actress Marguerite de Sevre. Where the truth is, where the fiction is, no one knows. There is a portrait of the actress in the museum.
My dream came true the other day. I've been wanting to visit here for a long time. Or rather, not like that. I wanted to visit the Tiflis Military History Museum. In the one that was before. In the one described at the beginning of the book that I bought here. I wanted to see the paintings by Aivazovsky, Esadze, Roubaud, the ones that were here. But alas. This is life.
It is a very small space, does not shine with a choice of expositions and an unreasonably expensive entrance for this place. You can go in, if only to the Pirosmani exhibition.
Impressions are modest, meager, an exhibition of one artist (Pirosmani) on the 2nd floor - one hall, 2 dozen paintings. There is a temporary exhibition on the 1st floor - in general, it is very ambiguous, we did not appreciate the girl's face and the tree in 30 copies. We may not be rare connoisseurs, but this is very, very little for the national gallery. I came as a family with children, adults and schoolchildren, we specially freed up the day to view the national gallery, we thought that 2 hours were needed for a leisurely viewing, but as a result we looked around the hall in 10 minutes and left with bewilderment. Very modestly for 100 GEL. There are still two sculptures)) It's not respectable for the national gallery. I am very disappointed
Two points, only for a small number of Pirosmani paintings. Two luxurious halls on the ground floor are commissioned for the self-admiration of a mature woman in the form of "artistic" self-portrait statements. Access to the hall with paintings by Temo Machavariani is closed, the national gallery with an entrance of 25 lari per person? Take care of the exposition.
For the first time, I saw the works of Nikolai Pirosmanashvili (Niko Pirosmani). It was very nice to get to know his work. I'm thrilled! A true representative of primitivism! Go to the gallery, you won't regret it!

In one hall there is a wonderful exposition of Pirosmani, and it is changing (in 2021 there were partly other paintings). The rest are exhibitions of contemporary Georgian artists, who, of course, should not show their art next to a genius.
A very frustrating experience. A modest exposition that does not cause awe and delight. Expensive entrance ticket. The status of the national Gallery is not clear. It does not justify expectations at all. If you are a fan of Pirosmani, then your experience will be more enjoyable, but not a fact
The gallery is very, very small (but the building is excellent). By and large, there is nothing to see except Pirosmani, but these are only 19 works, three of them are completely textbook
It's not a bad place, but there are few Pirosmani paintings. But there are other Georgian artists who liked it. But it still feels like it's half empty.
Gallery for a solid four ! The exposition is not large, but there is something to see, temporary exhibitions are also interesting. GEL 25 for admission is certainly too much. It 's like there's not enough funding or creativity for something more interesting. For those who visit Moscow galleries, there is probably little that will surprise.
The gallery is extremely weak, even against the background of the same gallery in Yerevan, there are very few canvases, only 3 small halls. Strongly overpriced
To be honest, I was upset: two floors of two halls with 10 paintings each, and then they are more suitable for diagnostic manuals for psychiatrists. Are there really no paintings that Georgia could be proud of?!
We didn't sell tickets for cash. I guess because we're from Russia.
Guys, of course, are principled)) class))
But I did not understand who was better off from this.😅
A small gallery, I liked it very much! Amazing paintings by Merab Abramishvili - I'm not sure if it was a permanent exhibition, perhaps an exhibition, but this is my personal discovery, I've never seen such a style before.
I liked it, the entrance is 25 GEL for two small floors - too much. Taking into account the fact that the main paintings are now not in a museum, but at an exhibition in Europe. I really liked the temporary exhibition.

There are five small halls in the gallery. The permanent exhibition with Pirosmanashvili's works occupies only one of them. Moreover, his most famous works are not there: they go to foreign exhibitions. The ticket price of 25 GEL seems too high for this museum. The Georgian Museum of Fine Arts located in the neighboring building is much more interesting.
There is nothing to see for such money (GEL 25), empty halls on two floors, with "exhibits" 5 meters apart from each other. I do not recommend it strictly. The red price is 5 liters
We looked at the entire museum in 40 minutes. Pirosmanashvili's paintings deserve attention, everything else seemed incomprehensible and without a concept. The word "daub" was spinning in my head during the campaign. I agree with those who write that it does not cost GEL 25. We also got to the moment when half of the permanent exhibition went to Europe for an exhibition…
I was very upset that I spent GEL 25 per ticket on this place. There are 3 artists, one of them Pirosmani - a total of 12 paintings, and those are not top-end. The rest of the artists are modern, but very specific. I do not recommend wasting time and money.
They speak Russian, but they don't want to. Yes-know. You start speaking English, they immediately get lost and answer in Russian. If you are sitting in the gallery, at least it would be nice to know English
The price for two floors of paintings is completely overpriced. Moreover, those who speak Georgian pay GEL 5-15, when as guests of the city/country - 25 each. And for what? For completely obscure work.
We got to the temporary exhibition of the Chinese-Georgian manga - a hack in putty.
There are two beautiful museums further down the street towards Freedom Square - it is better to visit them.
Only 2 floors, absolutely not worth 25 GEL, 5-10 is the real price. Unless you are a fan of Pirosmani, but even in this case I do not recommend you to visit. Wasted time. I'm attaching a photo, if you're thinking about going or not, then there are enough photos, you don't have to go 😄
I didn't like it at all. Compared to the Museum of Fine Arts, which is located across the street, there is simply nothing to see, and the price is too high.
Better than the national museum. Be sure to visit.

I went with the children specifically to see the Pirosmanishvili hall. Cost 25+ 10+10+10 Lari. Imagine my disappointment when I saw only a dozen of his less well-known paintings in the hall. At the same time, there is no information anywhere that the best works left for Denmark and Switzerland before January 2024. To come here before that time is a waste of money.

Unusual paintings and sculptures, but a very small exhibition.
Georgia is inextricably linked with the name of the unrecognized during his lifetime, but wonderful and original artist Niko Pirosmani. Unfortunately, not all of his works are collected in one place. The largest number of his works are represented in the National Gallery of Georgia (they occupy a separate room on the second floor). In addition, you can see the works of artists of modern Georgia there. For art lovers and Niko Pirosmani, it is a must-visit (some more of Niko Pirosmani's works can be seen in Sighnaghi).
