The Castle of the Prince of Oldenburg
A unique structure with amazing architecture and crazy imagination of the architect and the prince, a place of incredible energy and beauty, definitely worth visiting, but it's a matter of chance to visit, the passage to the territory is closed due to reconstruction, options: approach the green fence with a gate and if the watchman is nearby, try to negotiate, usually 300-500 rubles per person for 30 min visits, a tried and tested option, you can still somehow get through the Gagripsh restaurant, but I don't know for sure, and the third option is to try to find local people who can take a tour there, but you definitely need to visit inside!!!
The architectural structure of the Modern era. The object is under restoration by the Tyumen University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (there is a large poster in the photo: what is where and who is the sponsor). The upper part of the palace is privately owned and fully functional. The lower one was not restored at the time of the visit. For a moment: the photos were taken 4 years ago. And most importantly: rate the views! As far as I have heard, a hotel will be opened in this facility (I do not know how true this is).
A local leftist smart guy put a profiled sheet at the entrance and charges a fee for visiting 150 rubles and immediately honestly tells that no one should be here. To the question "where is the receipt for the ticket and the ticket itself?" returns 50₽ with the words "this is the receipt".. Well, all right, the local loafers are very clever😄
The architecture itself impressed me. I have studied the Istria of arts of all times and peoples, and Art Nouveau is one of my favorite eras. And what I found out for myself after visiting the facility: from the pages of Modern books, the style is quite spacious, in the sense that the rooms are large, almost like in the classics. But here, everything is so compact! Right in Russian! The palace in Rostov—on-Don is also distinguished by its smallness - this is a purely Russian trait.
And of course, such an attitude towards historical samples is upsetting, although thanks to this, I visited the palace🙄
The castle is closed for restoration)) It is located in a beautiful place on a mountain and with beautiful views of the Black Sea and the city of Gagra. The air is clean and quiet. The Prince has chosen a wonderful place.
A great and picturesque place!!! It's a pity that the castle is not being restored, it's a pity... I would like to see this beauty in full, as it was, and not what remains of the castle. However, even what's left is worth a look, get a lot of emotions and beautiful photos. I hope that someday the castle will be restored and this place will be a national pride.
⚜️Oldenburgsky 👨, Thank you very much for this 🪟
I knew that I would NOT leave until I took such a photo. The more publications I came across that the entrance was closed and I could not get inside, the more I needed it.
Three hours of searching for a passage, entering the third circle through the mountains and plainsThe stage of acceptance that we will have to look for again tomorrow. And voila. A man sitting on the parapet 👨 suggested how to get into the castle 🏰
I was the happiest at that moment. 🥰
The main thing is to be at the right time, in the right place and with the right people. Be sure to try and everything will work out 💪
We couldn't go through and see the ruins of the palace - everything is blocked and closed. But we went up from the side of the railway stop along a thin path and saw very beautiful views, a little debris of the palace and the progress of restoration.
Many who went up - then walked back along the same path.
We decided to follow the road to the end. And we saw the coolest views of the city, the sea. We reached an abandoned funicular station, a beautiful staircase covered with ivy, and some other abandoned old buildings. In short, don't be lazy and go ahead🌿🫶🏼
It looks good from a distance, but the territory is closed, repairs are underway and you can't get there. They write that the territory is private. I wish there were some warnings at the beginning of the climb that it is closed and not to get in, and not after you climb up and see a sign on the closed gate. After all, everywhere they write about it and talk about it as a landmark, it is not surprising that there is a desire to visit.
They were in August 2024. The guard gladly offered to pass for a fee. We got up and looked at it. Of course, a lot has already been redone and the walls are also partially made of blocks, restoration has begun, but slowly. The fireplace and the views certainly impressed, it's a pity all the passages are closed and concreted. I understand that this is a small part of the castle.
The place may be beautiful, but we couldn't get there. We rested at the end of August, walked around it, everything is closed everywhere "private territory", "There is no passage". ... garbage is lying around the edges of the paths everywhere. They looked at it from the side and left.... and so I wanted to get inside and see.
The view from the castle to the sea and the city is magical, the castle itself, of course, is very destroyed, well, there is something to see and imagine how beautiful it was once.
As a cultural attraction with its own unique history, I recommend it. However, among the disadvantages: problems with cleanliness and tickets. They came with their family twice, none of the guards were there, they could not get inside.
An interesting, colorful place, beautiful views, beautiful photos can be taken. It is a pity that such places are not maintained in order, everything is destroyed...
It was not possible to get in. The castle is hidden behind a green metal gate with a padlock. There is no sign or signs. According to the locals, there is a guard there and, depending on his mood, he may or may not be allowed in. In our case, it was not in place and the lock was hanging from the outside. It's a pity this attitude
For lovers of abandoned buildings, this castle will come in, but it is not available to visit, but you can find an option if you are lucky, we were lucky only for the second time, but it is worth it
It's beautiful, we love abandonment with children, and also with such a gorgeous view. A very unusual fireplace, balconies, a wall of rock.
The biggest disadvantage is that they take money for admission, without tickets, documents, it feels like just a couple unofficially takes money.( 150 rubles / person doesn't seem to be much, but at least some kind of check, to understand that then it will go to restoration )
Shock. The location itself, the view, the skeleton of the castle, where once there was palace luxury....Will there ever be a restoration of this unique place?. I don't know ... there are many such "abandoned places" in Abkhazia where, of course, it is worth visiting and joining the history of these places. Read, think and admire. Below, from the windows of the castle there is a stunning park now, it was all laid on the site of former wetlands. All this was done under the Prince of Oldenburg, who saw the potential of these places and turned them into an oasis…
Except that it's a beautiful view, but in general you can't approach this castle, everything is closed and it's not clear when it will be opened. We thought maybe there would be some kind of security, give us a paw to get through, but everything is deaf, except to take a picture next to it. So in general there are two passages. The first one didn't even take a picture, just a blue healthy fence like on construction sites, and the second one is higher, to which the steps lead to a lattice door. That was the end of the whole "visit" to the castle.
We rested on the opposite side of the castle, it was not possible to get into the castle territory, since it is a private territory. It 's very beautiful 👍🏻
Very interesting architecture in a gorgeous place. At the moment it is under restoration, the free entrance is closed.
I hope to see this castle in the foreseeable future after all the work is completed, even if the entrance is paid. Although it is unclear why the pearl of Gagra has not been restored yet, it is a shame!!!
Who put a mentally deranged person to guard such a place. Which also charges 300 rubles for the passage. And he chooses who he will hold and who will not. Such a place and such a shame!!! And someone benefits..
The views are amazing. The one who built understood the taste of life)) On one side of the building there are beautiful views of the sea, on the other - a very close location to the mountain - in hot weather there is a place to hide (shade, cool breeze). In general, there were 48 rooms to choose from)) Great scenery from the balconies overlooking the sea.
It is a very beautiful place from afar. But when they got up, they found a green iron door with a lock. We stood for a while. A guard came up behind the fence and said that everything was closed.
Take the camera. For 150 rubles, you can arrange a great photo shoot. A place for those who love abandoned buildings and beautiful views.
Part of the castle is in a state of reconstruction. The tower is almost restored, the roof is covered in many places. The main part of the castle is abandoned and has not been inspected. I can understand that it is difficult to make repairs everywhere at once, but they are able to remove the garbage, but, unfortunately, no one cares about this.
The place is beautiful, but it's uphill.. this is another adventure)))
Take water and comfortable shoes with you, you will have an unforgettable fitness)))
there was not enough time to get up, they were looking for a climb up, but evening came and it began to get dark, they were high and you would not notice between the trees on the cliff
We were at the castle two years ago. They paid 50 rubles each.
Of course, it would be nice to restore this castle and make it a museum. But, it is clear that there are no funds for this.
There is also a beautiful view of the sea from above.
And in spring, they said, the walls were hung with flowering wisteria.
I hope this beauty will be restored and this castle - a real historical heritage will receive tourists, It looks tempting and majestic From the sea (June 2024), but alas they are not allowed there, restoration is underway
Unfortunately, it was not possible to get up. We lived across the street from the castle, it looks very beautiful, I would like to restore it, I would love to visit the tour, and maybe I would live if possible.
This year it was not possible to visit the castle. The passage is closed, the historical value is said to be under restoration. I hope for its opening to visitors soon.
There's not much to see. The building must have been badly destroyed, the new walls are made of brick. It feels like I'm on a construction site. It also costs 300rubles per person.
I was in Gagra and saw this palace from afar, but the story was told about him how this prince lived, what he did for Russia, for which he was sent there, built a lot, rich people used to be able to do for people and the park in gagra is still worth it
The building looks very beautiful from afar, but you can't get there now. Locks and gates everywhere are probably being restored. Let's hope that after that it will be possible for tourists to visit such an atmospheric place!
It's a great place. The view is amazing. Of course, if you look for only the bad in everything, then you can say that this is not a well-groomed abandonment, but personally I can imagine how it was without modern restoration. The only point is, if you are walking with children, keep an eye on them with both eyes. There are no warnings, no warning signs. And so the place is very beautiful. It is impossible to enter the hunting lodge, but it is perfectly visible from the 3rd floor
I do not know how people get there.. Maybe in some paid mass excursions... We came on our own, everything is closed, there are locks on the gates everywhere.. Dogs... Therefore, they simply could not get inside.. Again, if there are any days off, we need available information.. We just lost time, fortunately we were just driving by on our own
A beautiful abandoned building. In the second part, repairs began to be made and the roof is already visible. But of course it is still very far from perfect condition. 150p entrance. Be careful with children-there are no fences and holes in the floor everywhere, free access to the roof without fences
The ruins of a beautiful castle. They can be reached by a mountain path. Restoration is underway now and the hotel will be here soon. They are not allowed inside.
A must-visit, excellent historical place of the city of Gagra. Do not take tours here, go yourself, although everyone seems to be hiding this place, and those who sell tours will never tell you the location of this place. It is located at the very beginning of the old Gagra from the side of Tsantripsh, at an altitude of 50 meters near an abandoned multi-tiered abandoned car park. Peace and kindness to all!
It's a pity that you can't get there. We looked at it from the side. We hung out at the grille with the inscription and went downstairs. The sea view is magnificent!
It was two years ago.During this time, the palace was severely destroyed. Five more years and that's it. So if possible, visit. The views are amazing! You can pass, now the entrance is 150 rubles. Ask the taxi driver to stop at the path to the palace.
We were there in April, nothing special. There are girls sitting at the entrance who take money for visiting the castle, although it is completely unclear why. The upper part of the castle was bought by someone, and the lower part is not being restored in any way, just ruins. Only the sea view is beautiful.
Let's go to this castle on our own. The entrance cost, if I remember correctly, 300 rubles.
This is a very beautiful, atmospheric, atmospheric old building. It can be bypassed in about 40 minutes completely and without haste. There will be very beautiful photos. And from the castle there are simply stunning views of Gagra and the mountains. I think that the castle will not leave connoisseurs of abandoned historical buildings indifferent.
There was a great palace for its time, even an elevator shaft is available. Great view from the windows and balconies. Of the minuses, some drunks behind the fence of their profiled sheet collect 150 rubles for admission, they do not give tickets, everything is brotherly, but this is normal for Abkhazia. There is a lot of garbage inside and the risk of falling through a hole in the concrete or from a balcony without a fence. Children are not allowed
It was bought out by a private trader, previously it was possible to get through security. Now everything is closed and the view is only from afar or from above. The gate is closed
The palace is in a decadent state. But the city administration is trying and some restoration work is already beginning. Over time, when the castle is restored, it will be something amazing. Even now, in a dilapidated state, it breathes history and wealth. The place and the view where the castle is located is extraordinary.
We didn't read the reviews and after spending 4 hours on the road in two directions, it turned out that it was closed, be careful not to go just like that
