ncredibly powerful and symbolic. This sculpture captures the agony and resilience of the defenders in an unforgettable way. The facial expression, the outstretched hand—it speaks volumes without words. An essential stop when visiting the fortress.

Brest, which was the first city to take the brunt of the German war machine, now has many monuments commemorating those terrible days. One of them is the monument "Thirst". We're wearing a fighter pulling his helmet towards the water with the last of his strength. It is based on a real person and the real feat of one of the defenders of the Brest Fortress, the Volga German Vyacheslav Meyer.

The sculptural composition "Thirst" in the Brest fortress makes a strong emotional impression. The prototype of the sculpture "Thirst" is the Volga German Vyacheslav Meyer. Leading the defense of one of the barracks of the fortress, one day, without saying anything to anyone, he grabbed a bowler hat and rushed to the window opening - he could no longer look at the torments of people. The foreman ran down the slope to the water, scooping up water from the river, carefully so as not to spill, rushed back. Meyer reached the window opening, managed to hand the pot to his colleagues, and then a shot rang out. Dying, the foreman managed to say only: "Water for the wounded." Vyacheslav Meyer was posthumously awarded the Order of the Great Patriotic War II degree. He was only 24 years old.
