One of the most beautiful and famous squares of Europe. Saint Marc's basilica and the Doge's palace are the oldest and the most amazing buildings here. They have been here since the pre-renaissance era. The Piazza San Marco is not far above sea level and during the high water from storm surges from the Adriatic or heavy rain, it is quick to flood.

Билеты брали заранее онлайн, поэтому очередей избежали. Внутри как в волшебной шкатулке. Обязательно посетить музей и балконы, с которых открывается великолепный вид на площадь и море

A place of power and Byzantine history... you walk in and everything is so familiar and understandable… Our Italian granny friends taught us how to go to Mass. It is a sacrament to be in the cathedral in the evening and look at the numerous mosaics in the darkened light. There is also an evening tour at the cathedral, which is already closed from raids, it is fascinating even without a crowd. …

The Golden Basilica, as St. Mark's Cathedral is called. Ancient, since the 9th century, it has changed over so many centuries, but it has become a symbol of history. The mosaics are incredible. If you have such an opportunity, go here not as to a museum, but to a service. After all, this is his "native" function. When music is playing, parishioners are sitting, candles are burning, and the cathedral is transformed. By the way, the Cathedral of San Marco inspired Igor Stravinsky to create a spiritual piece of music, it is dedicated to the Evangelist Mark. This is described in the book "Bella Venice". There are also many other Russian stories connected with him: Vasnetsov, Serov, Vrubel, Surikov, and even Tsvetaeva's sister described him. This is also in the book, it's called "Russians in Venice." So this cathedral is especially close and dear to us!

The most beautiful St. Mark's Cathedral, the most famous in Venice and its symbol. The temple is decorated with beautiful mosaics, with scenes from the Bible (Old and New Testaments) also depicting events from the life of Christ, the Virgin Mary, St. Mark and other saints. Words cannot describe the greatness, beauty and significance of this holy place.

The Basilica of San Marco... St.Mark... is one of the apostles of Christ. He's in a sarcophagus in the altar section. Very much!!! I was also attracted by the icon of the Madonna of Nicopea... the Mother of God with the baby Jesus in front of her. It's old. The basilica was built during the period of the Baptism of Rus. Can you imagine how long it's been? Although why should I be surprised? When I studied Venice, it turned out that it stands on a foundation of cedar, and he is from Russia. How can you not think about who the Wends are? We visited the balcony of the basilica. By the way, there are copies of the horse on the balcony. The originals are one-to-one inside like a museum exhibit. I attended the Catholic liturgy, prayed before the Madonna, and went to the altar where Mark's sarcophagus was. I bought a Nicopeia pendant as a souvenir.

A gorgeous place in terms of architecture! Very sophisticated and beautiful! Of course there are a lot of tourists. To visit the cathedral, you need to buy tickets in advance through the app, you will not be able to buy them at the box office.

You just need to visit this magnificent cathedral, be sure to buy a ticket to the roof. Keep in mind that you can not go to the cathedral in shorts and clothes that are too open, if your shoulders are open, take a handkerchief or scarf to throw on. And it is also forbidden to enter the cathedral with piercing and cutting objects.

St. Mark's Cathedral is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. In the 9th century, local merchants secretly transported the relics of St. Mark from Egypt to Venice. Does it remind you of anything? Since then, the apostle has been considered the heavenly patron saint of the city. The cathedral was built in the XI century. The recognizable image is created by five large domes with crowns. They are separated from the cathedral roof by low brick foundations. The diameter of the domes is about 13 meters. There are 16 windows in each of them. The cathedral attracts the attention of everyone who goes on ships along the Grand Canal. By the way, you can see the cathedral in the famous painting by Vasily Surikov. The only way to get inside the cathedral is through the northern facade. The massive arch above the doors is decorated with a sculptural composition of the 13th century, telling about the Nativity of Christ. Massive marble columns rise up on the sides. In total, the cathedral is supported by half a thousand columns, including porphyry and jasper, brought from the East. The cathedral has unique images not only above the head and on the walls. The marble floor is also a mosaic. Complex geometric shapes, as well as animal images, were created using stone, to which glass fragments were added.

Venice, St. Mark's Cathedral, wonderful memories. The stone floors of the Cathedral are trampled by thousands of feet, but they are still as beautiful as everything in it.

It's a beautiful Cathedral both inside and out. Tickets are online only! They don't sell for cash, there is no cash register. Important! They won't let you in in shorts or an open dress. The legs should be covered up to the knees.

The heart of Venice! Piazza San Marco, San Marco Tower, Doge's Palace, Correr Museum and.. San Marco Cathedral! All these buildings are beautiful and significant, and the cathedral especially. An example of the architectural symbiosis of Byzantine and Venetian architecture, painting and sculpture. It is beautiful both outside and inside. The only problem is that you need to allocate at least half a day to visit it, since it will take an hour or even more just to wait in line.

The first place I went with my friend Sasha when I was in Venice. An impressive temple! It was founded in the IX century and functioned as the court chapel of the Venetian Doges. Inside, in addition to the relics of St. Mark, there are many valuables taken from Constantinople during the Crusades, including the "quadriga" - the famous 4 horses (now there are copies). The interior is very beautiful and breathes history. Most see!

A historical and very beautiful place! I highly recommend it if you have the opportunity to visit! But I recommend checking in advance the opportunity to visit St. Mark's Cathedral, it is just a unique place both as a Temple for believers and as an ancient Historical one in the Gothic style.

It's very nice to visit once, but if there is a choice of Venice or any other city in Italy, I will choose any other city, be careful to the gondoliers, do not get deceived from the road, it's better to buy a tour of them somewhere.

Venice is the most beautiful and unusual. I was expecting unpleasant odors, but no. We lived in the center near the Rialto and San Marco Bridges, and we also managed to live in the Arsenal. Crowds of tourists day and night. The houses are all in flowers, drowning in water, how do the 1st floors of the houses live, apparently in dampness.

The first impression of Venice was by no means friendly: a cold wind was blowing, the sun was hidden, leaden clouds covered the sky. Considering that we were dressed in summer, with bare legs that were already blue, it wasn't very fun at heart...We looked especially wonderful against the background of Chinese wrapped in warm scarves, dressed in warm windbreakers. The tour began with the Murano Glass factory. "Hooray!" I thought when it turned out that we could finally get warm indoors! In addition, there was a "live" fire in the room: the master blew a magic steed out of the glass before our eyes! Bravo! Alas, photos are forbidden here. But there is a free toilet and, most importantly, heat)) Next, we went along the tourist route to St. Mark's Square - he is always depicted with a lion, such a majestic and very endearing uncle :-) Surprisingly, upon arrival in Venice (around 10:00 a.m.), the tide began to rise, and we witnessed how water began to flow through the paving slabs. What a sight it was! In a matter of minutes, the main square of the city turned into a swimming pool! The Venetians have everything in their grasp on this matter: the policemen immediately built wooden scaffolding across the entire square, along which a stream of tourists immediately poured (it was somewhat reminiscent of the queue at Lenin's mausoleum in the 80s). For us, tourists, it was something like exotic, but for the locals it was a common thing. Those who were bolder walked straight through the water, wearing special boots, such as our fishermen's, so-called "swamp" ones. Someone was generally barefoot (but this is dangerous, since the water there is not even clean at all). Therefore (because of the large water), we could not have a cup of coffee at a table in St. Mark's Square, but we tasted the most delicious pizza! It's a miracle! From the heat, from the heat, straight from the oven: a thin crust and juicy filling with tomatoes, cheese, ham, mushrooms. 1/4 of this pizza cost 2.70 Euros. There is one piece of advice: try to turn off tourist routes when you want to have a snack, avoid well-trodden paths if you want to save money. A photo session against the backdrop of the Venetian landscape, canals and magnificent buildings added even more positivity. Gondola and boat rides have brilliantly completed our tourist program. We didn't think about the cold anymore. Well-fed and, most importantly, inspired by all the beauty, we went to our next destination. Oh, Venetia, how beautiful you are!

When you get to St. Mark's Square, you immediately pay attention to this Cathedral, which is very different from other typical Catholic churches in Venice. It seems to be a medieval palace, not a cathedral. But there's always a queue, even in March, but it's really going pretty fast. It's not open yet at 9 a.m., it's already closed at 5 p.m. You definitely won't miss this temple. And the scaffolding is almost invisible. after a long walk through the narrow streets of the city, suddenly coming from another alley to this square, you experience a slight shock from the free space! this contrast is caused not by the size of the square (it is not too large), but by the fact that it is practically the only significant square in Venice, and is framed accordingly. The square is beautiful, it's impossible to deny it. But it's better to visit out of season. For example, even at the end of March, there are plenty of people here.

A very interesting historical place. I recommend taking the elevator up to the observation deck and seeing a non-standard panarama. Of course, to visit such places with a guide or a local resident, you can specify a lot of new things, not what is written in the directory.

To see it once in April-May (fewer people), have a snack with the food you brought with you and never come back here again. You will get terribly tired, there is nowhere to sit, grab a litter so as not to sit on a stone.

It is better to visit in the morning before the influx of tourists from cruise ships, if there are large puddles on the square, then you can not go inside, the floor will already be flooded with water.
