For the first time, I see that the graves of spiritual leaders are located inside a Christian cathedral, and a throne for the patriarch is installed in the middle of the temple. The Zion Cathedral (or simply Sioni) is not just an ancient temple in the center of Tbilisi, but the main cathedral of the city for many centuries and one of the main shrines of the Georgian Church. The temple has survived numerous destructions — it was burned by the Arabs, Mongols and Persians, it was seriously damaged in the earthquake of 1668. The appearance that you see today is the result of the restoration under King David the Builder (1112) and subsequent reconstructions of the XIII—XIX centuries. A unique relic is kept here.: The Cross of Saint Nina: The main shrine of Georgia. This cross, woven from the vine and hair of Saint Nina, is kept in a carved silver frame on the left side of the altar.

The Zion Cathedral is a living testimony to the spiritual and cultural history of Georgia. Inside, there is a warm, peaceful atmosphere: ancient icons, austere architecture and soft light create a feeling of touching eternity. The temple is easy to visit on foot from the center, surrounded by the cozy streets of the old town. I recommend visiting both during the day and at the evening service - each time the impressions are different, but equally strong.
