This is a truly amazing place! We were in August 2024, we took a 2-day excursion Sofia- Plovdiv-Rila Monastery-Rupite from Sinemat with a great guide Tamara Todorova) The Rila monastery ended 1 day of our trip, in the evening we just drove through the territory and saw it from the bus window. The acquaintance with this incredible place began in the morning! The energy there is amazing! Everything started to shrink inside me from the monastery gate! The sanctity is incredible! Despite the crowds of tourists from all over the world, we felt it to the fullest. I advise everyone to visit!

The cradle of Bulgarian culture, a monastery hidden in the mountains. I advise you to go and see how Bulgaria has been preserved. Of course, the second Bulgarian kingdom will not come, you can see that when you visit the Rila Monastery. Interesting exhibits such as a cross carved from solid wood. Which is not allowed to take pictures. Beautiful nature around, mountain river. The painted church is all inside. They sell delicious monastery bread. On the way back, you can eat delicious grilled fish. There are many cafes by the mountain river.

This monastery, like Bulgaria itself, made an indelible impression on me. I was lucky enough to be there as part of a pilgrimage group in 1999 and 2000. Only it is not Rila at all, as it is commonly called in Russia, but Rila, since it is located in the Rila mountains, where the great Bulgarian saint John of Rila asceticized in the 10th century, when Russia had not yet been baptized. He lived in a cave in these mountains, performed many miracles during his lifetime, and now he does not leave everyone who turns to him in heartfelt prayer. His relics rest in this monastery. They are open, completely imperishable, warm and fragrant. The monastery itself is very beautiful, with ancient frescoes and galleries. I would really like to visit there again, but now it's unlikely.
