The square is located in the center of Munich, more precisely in the northern part of the historical center. It was founded by King Maximilian I of Bavaria and named after the Odeon Concert Hall. The architecture is stunning, the ensemble includes the church of the Theatinerkirche, the loggia of the generals of the Feldherrnhalle, the former royal Munich residence, which is adjacent to the Hofgarten garden. In the Munich residence there are sculptures of bronze lions with shields, they are located at the entrance to the Emperor's Courtyard "Kaiserhof" and in the passage to the Fountain Courtyard "Brunnenhof". The lions sit on their hind legs and look at each other. In their front paws they hold a shield decorated with heraldic symbols: wisdom, justice, strength and moderation. There is a legend that a student who was pardoned and rewarded by King Ludwig I for an audacious pamphlet about the monarch's affair with Lola Montez leaned against the shield out of excitement. Since then, everyone has been touching the shield for good luck. More precisely, everyone is trying to rub the bronze muzzle at the base of the shield, which has already been worn to a shine by passing by.
