1.5 km on foot, 1.5 hours from boarding the train to the exit. I was impressed, the other world is straight. And plants and animals grow underground in the cave. It is interesting and informative, a good non-tiring tour and music in the halls. I advise you to visit, especially for those who have not been to the caves before.

The caves are very impressive, compared to our Sochi caves, they are a delight. Its 1000₽ is definitely worth it, but the truth feels a bit expensive. Groups of 100-105 people, tourists are brought in packs on buses, there are practically no small groups. The paths and railings are slippery due to the constant humidity, so wear good shoes.

Unbelievable! A very fascinating sight! Separately, I would like to mention the guides and those who create a unique feeling of magic! The underworld, with its mysteries and riddles, the sounds of drops and the silence of stone... Everything is thought out to the smallest detail! Leaving the first hall, you hear a male ethno-choir, polyphony and strength... After that, the Great Bach and his brightest Toccata! And completing the route, at the incredible waterfall of stone, you will be guided by the voice of the magnificent Hibla Gerzmava, flying through the acoustic space and pipes of the stone organ ... Great! But don't forget socks and warm blouses :)

It's expensive for Abkhazia (1000 rubles), but the cave is worth it. I'm absolutely thrilled. Guided tour, steam train ride, incomparable views. You can even walk with a wheelchair. There would also be a photo service in good quality inside, I would have put 6)).

Good afternoon. I advise you to visit the New Athos caves. Beauty, that's all. We found a great guide with whom we can walk all day. I recommend buying tickets either the day before the visit, or going a little earlier than the ticket office opens, as there is a very long queue during the season. Accordingly, the queue is alive and some comrades do not observe it. It's better to take some clothes into the cave, since standing in the sun in the queue will be all wet, and it's 11 degrees in the cave. There is an option to catch a cold.

It was August 8, 2025. A beautiful place, fascinating. Entrance is paid 700 rubles / person. It is better to go in the morning, there is less queue at the checkout. I arrived at 9:15 a.m., there was a 5-minute queue, and the tour started at 9:40 a.m. It is open from 9 to 18. We took a small train inside, a group of about 50 people. The tour duration is 1 hour and 20 minutes. While people were moving from cave to cave, it was possible to take pictures without people. Before the list, you can pay for the opportunity to take photos and videos of 50 rubles., They give you a ticket, but no one asks for payment inside the caves. The views are unusual, it's cool +15, you can take a blanket before going down, 100 rubles. But it's also quite warm in shorts with a T-shirt with a hoodie on top. Souvenirs can be bought in the caves: pieces of stalactites/ stalagmites in jars for 500-700 rubles and on stands for 500, 700 and 1000 rubles.

An incredibly beautiful natural formation and transformed by man for visiting excursions. High arches, stalactites, stalagmites, sinkholes, lakes. All this causes delight and surprise. Payment in cash, the cost of the tour is 700 rubles per person. The duration is 1.5 hours. I was at 13h on 11/19.24. The guide was surprisingly charming, competent, attentive. Thank you for the interesting story about the New Athos Cave..I recommend.

A unique place and a must-visit! Before the tour, we were scared that it was cold and damp, but maybe because we are not southern people, the temperature was quite comfortable. Everything is very well organized and safe. You will be transported to the starting point of the tour, as well as after the end, on such a minimetro! There are steep descents and ascents in places, but everything is quite bearable. Kids of about five went through everything without tantrums. It's an atmospheric place. It fascinates with its beauty and can scare at the same time, but the guide assured that there are sensors throughout the area and if the rock starts to move, they will stop it. It turns out that concerts are also held in the cave. If I had known about this, I would have bought a ticket to the concert. There will be cool acoustics!

It was the first time we were in such a cave - the impressions are indescribable! A must-visit. In early November, there were no queues at the box office, we bought tickets for the next session without any problems. Do not buy a ticket for the photo shoot, no one asked him in the cave. The tour takes 1.5 hours, it's more than a kilometer to walk, it's slippery in places. We had a great time.

The Novoafon Cave is a unique natural wonder that is definitely worth visiting during a trip to Abkhazia. This famous cave impresses with its scale, rich history and amazing formations. A walk inside allows you to feel the atmosphere of mystery and antiquity, and the variety of stalactites, stalagmites and underground halls impresses with their beauty and grandeur. The cave routes are well equipped and safe for tourists, and the guides tell a lot of interesting facts and legends related to this place. I especially remember visiting the main hall, a huge hall with unique acoustics and stunning stalactite—shaped formations. A visit to the New Athos Cave will give you not only vivid impressions, but also the opportunity to touch the history and secrets of the underworld. It is recommended to wear comfortable clothes and shoes, as some of the routes require little physical training. This place should definitely be included in the travel program — it will leave an unforgettable impression and allow you to experience the magic of ancient natural formations.

I've been there several times, and every time it's like the first time. It is very interesting to take the subway first, then walk among the frozen stone faces painted by nature, walk across a real bridge like in Tolkien's novels, see an underground lake, stalactites and stalagmites. I definitely recommend you to visit

You have arrived in Abkhazia. Two mandatory points to visit. These are Lake Ritsa and Novo-Athos cave. Check the opening hours in advance and arrive at the ticket offices in advance. Sessions are visited at a certain time. Groups are recruited quite quickly, groups of 70 people in winter and 100 people in summer. There is a risk of running out of tickets during the season. Therefore, it would be better if you plan a trip as part of a tour group that books tickets in advance and is serviced at the ticket office first.

After overcoming the long queues at the ticket office, at the appointed time we board the train cars, which will take us far into the depths of the mountain, where we will see simply the huge halls of this cave. This is not the largest cave in Abkhazia, but it is well prepared for visiting, with competent lighting and good guides. The warm memories of the visit will keep you warm for a long time! Despite the fact that it's really cool inside the cave, be sure to bring your sweaters with you!!

And so, you arrived at the place and stood in line (it is advisable to do this no later than 11 o'clock in the season - there are chances to leave before 13). Expect the queue to last another 40-60 minutes and you will be able to buy a ticket for the evening at the ticket office (for example, if you buy a ticket at 12:00, you will be offered a time for 17:00). But there is a way out - enterprising Abkhazians will kindly offer you a ticket for an earlier time (we took it from our hands at 12:40, that is, an hour and a half after purchase) for a symbolic surcharge of 300 rubles per ticket (instead of 700 rubles, pay 1000). Please keep this point in mind in order to avoid unpleasant moments when visiting the cave. And now to the cave itself. Trains run every 10 minutes, and groups of 80-100 people are also launched there. The train departs from the first station to the second (about five minutes), releases one group of tourists and goes to the last station to pick up another group. During the route, you will walk about one and a half kilometers and exit to that station. Some said that guides talk badly and treat tourists poorly. Our guide turned out to be very friendly, who has been working in the cave for 50 years (she was the first guide since the opening). The tour is accompanied by visual illumination, they tell a lot of interesting information. During the tour, you will be offered to buy "miraculous" pebbles that they make themselves from salt. According to their stories, they disinfect the water and saturate it with minerals. In general, it's a marketing ploy and nothing more. Price tags range from 400 to 3,000 rubles per crystal. It's already an amateur, but we didn't take it, not the kind of souvenir we would like to get. Otherwise, you'll see for yourself, this place is definitely worth a visit, I don't want to kill interest.

A curious place to visit. The only interesting stalactites and stalagmites are in the last room. The tour is conducted by a team at a certain hour, the price is 700 rubles + 50 rubles separately for filming (but no one checks this anymore). There are serious climbs and slippery descents. Duration 1h 20 min. Blankets are provided for a fee.

The place is too popular, which imposes its disadvantages in the form of queues, waiting for excursions, parking problems, etc. As in the USSR everything was organized and built here, so everything remains. Well, electronic ticket sales can probably be organized in the modern world - this would eliminate the main problems. In general, it is better to come here in winter, when there are many times fewer people. There are no questions about the cave itself.

The tour begins with a ride on the smallest subway in the world, probably)) The small trailers and the station are made in the style of the subway. Then the cave tour itself. It's better to see what you saw for yourself) and I was very pleased with what I heard, especially the fact that the number of visitors is calculated and the air condition in the cave is monitored so as not to harm the natural creation. At the end of the tour, we pass through a gallery with amazing acoustics, the guide offers to sing and experience live. Prepare your favorite song))

Awesome tour! I liked everything: the guide, the cave itself, its history, the location — wow. A separate thrill is to take a ride on the "subway" To the cave. It's a very majestic place, and it's not expensive to visit, but it's worth coming early to get on the tour, because, for example, there's already a long queue at 9 a.m. and it's too hot to wait.

It's a miracle. It was in 2025, the ticket costs 700 rubles, payment is in cash only. The first tour starts at 11.20 a.m., and tickets must be taken at 10 a.m., as the ticket office opens. The tour is accompanied by a guide who tells the story of the halls, as the caves inside are called. A must-visit! I'll attach a couple of photos, but it's better to look with your own eyes.

Nicely. The guide tells us in great detail, it is comfortably warm in the cave, according to the guide, it is always 14 °, we visited in April, it was very warm (pants and T-shirt), although some people were wearing jackets. An important point is to buy a ticket in advance. You can only buy it on the spot for 1-1.5 hours in advance.

There was no queue for tickets. The cost per person is 700 rubles. The tour itself lasts about an hour and a half. The guide was good, he told me everything in detail and showed me. The caves are very impressive. Photographs cannot convey the scale and beauty. Minuses: - children. There were many children during the visit. Judging by the conversation, the most interesting thing for them is the train. However, they shout, touch, slow down and in every possible way prevent you from getting into the atmosphere. - the size of the group, - due to the fact that many people want to take pictures or videos, the queue is greatly slowed down and the view is blocked It would be ideal to increase the cost of the tour itself several times and reduce groups of people. Ideally, any shooting should also be completely prohibited. Definitely worth a visit.

After the trip to Lykhny village, our path was aimed at a trip to New Athos. In summer, due to the high workload, it was not possible to visit the cave. And we hoped that this time we would still be able to get there. I had been to the cave only once before, in my early childhood, so I have few special details and visual memories of this place. At the entrance to the cave, we had no idea how the walk would go. It all started with the fact that we got into a cave subway car and moved towards the sightseeing route. Arriving at the "station", we got out of the trailer and went to the first hall. When the whole group entered the first hall, the lights went out, and the guide began to broadcast about the history of the cave's discovery and its scale and about various interesting moments. The sound came from special speakers, so everyone could hear the guide, even those who were standing in the distance. And various parts of the cave, which the guide spoke about, were illuminated by bright spotlights. We stopped at each hall to listen to an interesting summary about this hall and each member of the group could take a photo. During the transition between the halls of the cave, we were accompanied by Abkhazian folk calm music, which allowed us to immerse ourselves even more in the hike through the cave. In total, the walk through the cave was about 1.5-2 hours, but left behind great photos and pleasant memories!

It's just a fairy tale! Those who love caves and catacombs are sure to visit! This is a real underground palace! I'm absolutely thrilled! The indoor route and viewing platforms are well thought out and implemented: despite the slight dampness, the concrete paths are completely non-slip. The backlight is well done (although the electrical cables could have been hidden better, but that's if you find fault). The acoustics are amazing, they use it for concerts: there's also a concert hall! Part of the tour also has musical accompaniment. The guide, as usual in such places, is strange, scares impressionable girls, but given that Soviet engineers worked on the cave, you can not be afraid of unforeseen situations. A separate impression of the micro subway on the way to the cave: a complete illusion that you are participating in some kind of horror quest or squid game) the photos do not convey the atmosphere, there is a special climate and smell. The price is 700 rubles, there is also a window at the entrance where you need to pay 50 rubles to safely take pictures on your phone (this is a bit strange)

Before hiking, I strongly recommend reading about these caves. The place is interesting, but the desire to make money on it began to spoil the impression. The groups are large, the tour goes at a gallop. it makes sense to photograph only with a technique that can shoot at dusk + for portraits, a light flashlight to illuminate the face (a phone flashlight will do). Be prepared that you will be pushed and the lights will be turned off in the passed locations. Wear non-slip shoes, preferably closed, with enough bath towels for insulation, or rent a blanket for 100 rubles. Adults tolerate coolness normally, but it is better to insulate children at least with a towel. Do not go to the dining room at the cave - there is a high probability of bad consequences (read more about this in the reviews of the dining room). PS photos cannot convey the atmosphere inside, only after visiting inside you will get unforgettable impressions, especially children. 4 stars for the gallop and the lack of individual excursions, for the organization as a whole. (See below) It is better to go individually in the morning by 9:00, after 11:00 a lot of buses arrive and, damn, for groups, the priority is to buy tickets for the session, individual tourists are attached to the remaining number of tickets, so you can stand at the ticket office for 2 and 3 hours. Tickets are not sold in advance, tickets are only available at the box office. Children under 8 years old are free (no documents required). One session can accommodate 70 people, because this is the capacity of the trailers that take them to the entrance to the caves and return them back. They will sell stones during the tour - I didn't buy them, because I don't understand this and I'm not a collector.

I did not like the tour to the Novo-Athos cave.At first, I had to wait in line for a long time, then freeze for 1.5 hours in a gloomy and damp cave. For 100 rubles, we could rent blankets at the entrance, which obviously no one washes, but the guide of our group assured us that we would not freeze (she did not go with us, there was a stern woman who had long been tired of tourists). However, we were frozen there, the temperature in the cave is 14 degrees. There is absolutely no beauty in the cave, there are swells, growths, etc., everything is gray, dark and that's it.To be honest, I want to say that many people enjoyed the tour, but I am writing my personal opinion.

If you are a fan of such excursions, I recommend you to visit. It's a pretty big cave. At the time of the visit, in early June, there was a huge queue. They start a group of 50 people. In general, the whole tour took an hour, out of the stated one and a half. And not all the halls were open. Of the 11 halls, two are for scientific work only. And three open only when any concerts are held in New Athos. As a result, we visited only 6. And I read information that scenes from the Soviet movie The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn were filmed in this cave. The cave is damp and cool, the temperature is about 14 degrees. I recommend you to visit!

An extremely interesting place to visit, created by nature. The organization of the process leaves much to be desired - a waiting room without air conditioning, a paid toilet in the mud, be careful - the time in Abkhazia is the same, but the clock in Mobile phones jumps, so the date of the visit on the ticket may not be clear. What the employees forget to tell you, at first you just hear a shout and go away - this is not your time. In caves, it is always up to + 10 degrees, be sure to take warmer things, otherwise after the heat outside, the tour goes for 1 hour, there is a chance of getting sick. I do not recommend it to small children, it is damp, cold and incomprehensible to them. But. If you don't get hung up on poor service, everything is just fine - ancient Colchis is incredibly beautiful and charismatic!!!😘

Classics of the genre, where is Abkhazia without the New Athos cave? Everyone should visit her. We were in October, there were no problems with attendance and tickets, that's all 👍 Abkhazia is a real paradise for speleologists, because there are a large number of caves and karst formations, including three of the deepest caves in the world: Verevkina (2212 m), Krubera (2199 m) and Sarma (1830 m). They are a series of karst wells connected by loopholes and galleries, which are practically impossible for an ordinary person to get into. Only high-class speleologists with special equipment are able to do this. The New Athos Cave is a unique natural monument of Abkhazia. One of the largest caves open to the public not only in the region, but also worldwide. The cave was found in 1961 by Givi Shalvovich Smyr, the discoverer and later director of the New Athos Cave. However, visitors' access to the cave became possible only in 1975. The cave complex contains 11 halls in total. 6 halls are sightseeing, it is possible to get here any day. One is scientific, only specialists have access here. The remaining halls open their doors only according to a certain schedule.

It's a very atmospheric place. The cave is simply impressive in its size. Even if you've been to other caves in Sochi before, don't be lazy to visit this one. It is believed that the Athos cave is one of the largest. I even Googled this topic 😁 there are more in Abkhazia, but it is not accessible to tourists. It wasn't that cold in the cave, but I needed a jacket. We visited with small children, the stroller passed normally. There are a few steps. The children were very pleased with the subway car. On the downside, there is no toilet inside, the entrance and exit are only with the group. And there's a long queue at the checkout during the season. But according to Abkhaz customs, the last point is "solved". On the whole, everyone is happy. It's definitely worth a visit once

I am visiting the cave for the second time. Between the first and second visits there were Kungur and Azish caves. And, just like the first time, the Athos Cave is impressive in its scale! Thank you, Givi Shalvovich, for discovering this beautiful landmark, and thanks to the Soviet speleologists and engineers who made it possible to visit this magnificent cave! Many thanks to the staff and guides! The only thing is that so far, as of July 2025, the cave's cash desks accept only cash, keep in mind!. Periodically, queues arise due to group excursions arriving on large buses. If you are going to visit the cave individually, I advise you to purchase tickets first, and then, according to circumstances, plan visits to other attractions of New Athos.

We were in May and we didn't freeze at all in T-shirts inside the caves, but if you're worried, you can rent a blanket for 100 rubles. A certain number of people are allowed inside every hour, those who did not enter are waiting for the next time, the actual time of the visit will be indicated on the ticket. We were in the cave on 06/12/2025, the three of us, a 14-year-old daughter, my husband and I. We bought it from Sochi along with the Golden Ring of Abkhazia tour. There were no tour groups queuing, and they were starting on time. I did not read the information in advance, naively I thought that the cave was of the Thai type - I went in and out within 5 minutes. It turned out that you are taken by train as in the subway inside the mountain and there is no way back. I felt sick as soon as we got off the mini train. Severe nausea and dizziness, lack of acid. When I entered the cave itself, panic began. Another woman started to panic, she was being led by the arms. Some of the group also had nausea and dizziness. You need to walk 1.5 km through the cave in the semi-darkness along thin bridges. The feeling is oppressive. I didn't see much beauty, the beige tone prevails. It's very much for amateurs.

The scale of the cave is amazing! Organization from descent to exit at 5+. Thanks to the guides/light engineers for the informative stories. In the room where the exit to the wagons for the descent into the cave is located, there is a long queue at the ticket office, as well as a mass of citizens who are waiting for the command to exit the wagons. It's very stuffy!!!! Ceiling fans are pointless!!! It's very "uncomfortable" in the July heat. The game is at the entrance, if you're in your car- at the main entrance, a man in uniform (presumably the local traffic police) waves you off towards the paid parking lots up the road. Many people put it along. And I decided too, someone in civilian clothes came up and recommended putting it on their headscarf, because my car "would go for analysis and the traffic police inspector would take off the state license plates." On the headscarf (unequipped areas ) a local youth gives out 300p pieces of paper with the inscription "paid parking". The photo is attached. The glove compartment is fierce) like in the 90s) although why be surprised if everyone is satisfied with the presence of grazing cows on the highways. But the cave is top! Definitely worth a go)

For an amateur, of course. But for general development, it's worth going. The tour is interesting, the views are unusual. Tickets are sold in advance, the queue is long. But it's worth it.

The cave is incredibly beautiful, each group is accompanied by a guide. The train is slowly falling into disrepair, and the train is struggling to cope with the influx of tourists. I've needed a second one for a long time.

It's very beautiful and fascinating. If you come by yourself, you first need to complete the parking quest, then purchase a ticket. After standing in line for about an hour, we bought tickets 2.5 hours later in time.

Ambiguous impressions of the visit - a one-time visit, delivery to the beginning of the route and back is interesting, on a small train in a tunnel, a mini metro, it's cool inside, plus 14, you need a sweater, or they give you a plaid for rent for 100 rubles, in places it's slippery, better in sneakers, beautiful, unusual, but very stretched time, 1 hour 20 minutes, is very long, despite the fact that almost half of this time is waiting on the observation decks, there are six of them, walking slowly, it would be better to make an audio guide and an independent passage and an independent departure on the next train back, a little sorry for the lost time, but it's worth visiting once. Admission is only for cash or transfer, there is Wi-Fi at the checkout, the price is 700 rubles. There are young people who spend without a ticket on the next train for the same amount, tickets at the ticket office were already sold for the next excursion in 20 minutes, and so they did not have to wait, they immediately went on an excursion.

A must-visit place in Abkhazia. An hour and a half for everything about everything, it's very beautiful inside. Auntie the guide will tell you everything very thoroughly and slowly, you can have time to watch and listen to everything yourself. Both children and adults are delighted.

It's a very interesting cave. I recommend. The tour is as clear as a song. An unmanned small train is being driven to the cave. The tickets were bought quickly (700 rubles per person), despite the large number of emergency guides and guides. Log in clearly on time. The disadvantage is that there are a lot of people on each tour, it seemed to me that there were at least 60 people.

One of the most visited caves in the world) but it is difficult to get there, because only by appointment. And they found out the time only upon arrival, they don't write it anywhere on the websites. The last cave was quite interesting. The height of the caves and good acoustics are amazing. Admission is 700 rubles, duration is 1 hour. I took off my clothes because I wanted to look at everything longer, but we were constantly being pushed. And the music was annoying all the way, I wanted to listen to silence, but alas, they did not give it (
