The obelisk "Courage" is the heart of the Brest Fortress. This is a figure of a soldier defender, 33.5 meters high. The construction of the monument began in May 1968. The sculpture, consisting of 200 pieces, was built with concrete slabs, which were fixed to a metal frame with a grid of secret columns 6 ×6 m. For the manufacture of this structure, a plaster sculpture shape was cast in a ratio of 1:7. Then the traces of the shape in the form of squares were removed, which later acquired the shape that can be observed today. The reverse side of the monument tells about the episodes and actions during the defense of the fortress.

I have already visited twice: in October 2025 and in January 2026. The monument "Courage" is one of the three main symbols of the Brest Hero Fortress memorial complex, along with the obelisk bayonet and the Thirst monument. The harsh reinforced concrete gaze of a Soviet fighter, who seemed to have grown into a block of stone, as if saying from above to the beholder: "We stood to the death, but we did not give up. You, a man of the future, are standing now where we died. Remember our feat and be a worthy man." In winter, we managed to catch the guard of honor at the monument. You stand, look at the monument as a whole or into the eyes of a fighter and observe the thoughts in your head. Low obeisance and eternal good memory to our heroes, the valiant defenders of the Brest Fortress!
