Masjid Aṣ-ṢaḥĀbah — Mosque of the Companions of the Prophet) is a mosque in the Old City of Sharm el-Sheikh. The mosque is named after the companions and prophets of Muhammad. The first stone of the mosque was laid on January 10, 2011, but construction work was suspended during the revolutionary events. Work resumed later in April of the same year, and its construction was completed at the end of 2016. The opening took place on March 24, 2017, becoming one of the tourist attractions of the city. The mosque is built on an area of 3,000 square meters with two minarets 81 meters high. The roof of the mosque rises 36 meters. The area of the building itself is 1800 square meters and can accommodate about 800 visitors. Inside there is a corridor with two prayer halls and 36 bathrooms for ablution, as well as office and commercial premises that serve as the mosque's foundation. The cost of the mosque is about 30 million Egyptian pounds. 10 million Egyptian pounds were raised through donations; another 10 million Egyptian pounds were allocated by the Government of Ibrahim Mehlab, who was responsible for fundraising, and the rest of the construction costs were assigned to the engineering body of the Egyptian Armed Forces. The mosque was designed by Egyptian architect Fuad Tawfiq Hafez — for free. Who curated his work until the end of his days. He died on November 10, 2022 in the Sharm El-Sheikh hospital from cancer. The street in front of the entrance to the Old Town is named in his honor. The architecture combines Ottoman and Mamluk styles. Inside there is a red and gold carpet, gilded interior elements, stained glass painting under the arches of the dome. The mosque is the second largest mosque in the city of Sharm el-Sheikh after the Al-Mustafa Mosque.
