Stunning frescoes on the walls and vaults of the temple. Online reference: The Orthodox church "Jvaris Mama" ("Father of the Cross"), which is located in the very center of Tbilisi. It is one of the oldest temples in Tbilisi. The first church on this site was founded in the 5th century by Tsar Vakhtang I Gorgasali. Unfortunately, the original building has not been preserved. The building that can be seen today was built in 1825. Next to the church is the Armenian temple of Norashen, which makes this area especially colorful.

It is considered one of the oldest religious buildings in Tbilisi (according to Plato Ioseliani, among the five initiated by Vakhtang Gorgasali (5th century): Sioni, Anchiskhati, Holy Cross, Zemo Betlemi and Michael the Archangel). It was built at the Tbilisi compound of the Georgian Jerusalem Monastery of the Holy Cross. The church was repeatedly destroyed by the Mongols (14th century) and the Persians (1795), but it was rebuilt each time. The modern building was built in 1825[2]. A fresco has been preserved from the paintings of the XIX century[3]. It belonged to the Patriarch of Jerusalem until 1921.

On all the walls and ceilings there are beautiful ancient frescoes with various religious subjects, many icons decorated with gold.
