These structures are made of hewn stone and dry slate using traditional masonry. No cement mortars were used during construction, meaning the structures are supported by their own weight. The Shatili Fortress has been partially converted into hotels, guest houses and catering. On the one hand, this is an interesting solution, you can spend the night in an object with such a rich history, and the object is monitored by merchants, whose income will depend on its integrity. But on the other hand, it is still an object that claims to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. There are 60 defensive towers, some of which are in extremely poor condition, requiring restoration.
