On the way back to Hurghada, we made a short stop at the necropolis of Thebes (also known as Luxor), near the colossi of Memnon. For information: a colossus is something big, huge in size (statues, titans, etc.). Here you will see 2 huge stone statues depicting Amenhotep III, not Memnon (as indicated in all the guides). Surely you're wondering why the statues were so named? – So the name "Memnon" was given to the colossus by the ancient Greeks: according to legend, he made strange long-drawn sounds at dawn / in the morning (meeting his mother), similar to crying. Memnon translates as "ruler of the morning dawn" - hence the decision to give him such a name.😊 The height of each reaches almost 18 meters. Just like many Egyptian architectural structures, these two statues are listed by UNESCO.☝️

Everyone is celebrating and I can't pass by - the scale is impressive, you can compare it with a dog lying next to it, and these are the entrance statues to the temple.… What kind of temple was there, how majestic and large-scale it was. Let's stop here for a small amount of time, but it's worth it. There is an interesting history of both the buildings and the names of the colossi.

Excursions stop here for literally 5-10 minutes. The statue itself is certainly impressive for its size and weight of 720 tons!! And that was 4,000 years ago. The ancient Egyptians, of course, are amazing with their ability to build such splendor. It's a pity that after the earthquake their "voice" disappeared and they stopped "singing". The statues were in front of the entrance to the temple, which is now gone, one can only imagine what an impressive temple it was. The place is interesting and the perfect location to take some memorable photos.
