A beautiful church in the Castello area, very close to Piazza San Marco. A beautiful, harmonious facade, with a large number of works of art inside, the most famous of which is Bellini's "Madonna with Saints." Napoleon liked her so much that he took her away and sent her to France. Fortunately, the masterpiece was returned to its homeland. The church has a crypt (entrance is for a fee). The name of the temple is in honor of Saint Zachariah, who saw the Savior. There are his relics in the church.

There is another beautiful church in the Castello district. Founded in the distant IX century by one of the Venetian doges for the relics of St. Zakaria (father of John the Baptist) donated by the ruler of Constantinople - Leo V. The interior is very beautiful and solemn. I recommend paying attention to the Madonna, the work of Bellini himself.

We saw this church when we were walking from the Greek temple towards San Marco. The church is very beautiful, although its facade is not decorated with an abundance of colored marble or ornaments - it is a very simple and bright temple, which is in contrast to the extremely rich interior. Seeing the tilted bell tower Chiesa di San Giorgio dei Greci from Slavyanskaya embankment, I decided to walk to it without fail. It was amazing to see a completely deserted temple courtyard in the center of Venice - a real Greek Orthodox Church, and an icon museum. Unfortunately, the services are not held every day, and it was not possible to attend. It's a very pleasant place anyway. By the way, the temple is closer to the embankment.
