The monument in Vitebsk is a rare and touching monument that depicts Alexander Nevsky not as a warrior, but as a caring husband and father. This is a 4-meter bronze composition weighing 6 tons. The prince holds his son Vasily on his arm, and with his other hand he holds the hand of his wife, Princess Alexandra Bryachislavna (Polotsk). The monument is dedicated to a specific historical episode: in 1245, the prince came to Vitebsk to pick up his wife and son. His wife was the daughter of Prince Bryachislav of Vitebsk (Polotsk), and this dynastic marriage strengthened the union of the principalities. The sculpture symbolizes family values and really stands out among traditional equestrian monuments - a very warm and humane image.
