"William Saroyan is an outstanding American writer and playwright of Armenian descent. One of the main classics of American literature of the 20th century, who wrote about the lives of ordinary people with great warmth and compassion. The opening ceremony of the monument took place on December 13, 2008 in the presence of the President of Armenia. The monument was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the writer's birth. In the same year, UNESCO officially declared the year of William Saroyan. The monument was created by the outstanding sculptor David Yerevantsi (Babayan), as well as architects Ruben Asratyan and Levon Igityan. Personal connection: Sculptor David Yerevantsi was personally acquainted with Saroyan. The writer visited Armenia four times during his lifetime, and during one of these visits they met."

The monument reflects the greatness of man and citizen. Armenia still honors him (he is depicted on banknotes), despite the fact that the short story writer was born in America.

It's good that they put up monuments to such people, I didn't know about him before, now I've read his biography and I'll definitely read his work!
