A monument dedicated to the defenders of the Brest Hero Fortress, who suffered and died from acute water shortage.
The Mukhavets River flows very close, literally a few meters from the walls of the fortress, but its shore was shot through by Fascist machine gunners, and the fortress's water supply was interrupted in the first days of the war.
Visiting the monument “Thirst" leaves a strong emotional impression.
The monument is an important element of the historical and cultural heritage of Belarus and recalls the tragic events of the past, which are important to remember and respect.
A place that is quite strong in emotion makes you think that during a shortage of water, literally a small amount cost a person his life. It was also needed for machine guns
A monument that touches the strings of the soul, reaches to the very depths and it is impossible to just pass by. No photograph can fully convey its expressiveness, especially in combination with the place.
The Thirst monument with a length of 13 meters was erected in memory of those who died a brave death, saving people in search of water. It is made of reinforced concrete, which is often used for decorations. And the monument weighs about 720 tons.
The monument "Thirst" is located between the ring barracks and the Mukhovets River, depicts a soldier crawling for water. It is made realistically, I recommend to inspect it.
I went to Brest on purpose to see this monument. We got caught just in the rain, it added to its drama - water was accumulating in the helmet as well as in front of the monument.
A very memorable place of a big problem for the defenders of the fortress is the lack of water. I definitely advise everyone to visit this is our story.
