My favorite place in Rome. The history of the city of all centuries and centuries is intertwined here. It was originally the mausoleum of Emperor Hadrian. The construction was completed in 139 AD. In 590, Pope Gregory the Great saw the Archangel Michael on top of the castle during the plague, who was sheathing his sword - that was the end of the epidemic. And the castle acquired its real name. Over two thousand years, the building has been rebuilt several times and was part of the city's fortifications and a prison. Today there is a museum here, and from the terrace at the very top there is a magnificent view of the Eternal City. It is a very beautiful and impressive building.
