They arrived by chance. They did not find a passage to the place. We swam on the Shore of the Western Dvina River next to a magnificent sandy beach, clean and sparsely populated
Apart from the memorial sign and the protective moat, nothing has been preserved, but the place itself with a strategic overview on the high shore on the way from the Varangians to the Greeks, by the way, the Black Sea was called Surozhsky in the old days
Yandex also published my photos, for which I thank them. This is the place where a stone castle was built near Suraje in the 16th century. Today it is a hill overgrown with grass, nettles and hogweed, which offers an excellent view of the confluence of the Kasplya River with the Western Dvina River. In the middle of the hill there is an incomprehensible gazebo, with traces of a bonfire inside it (you can see in the photo), a sign hangs on the gazebo: A monument of historical and cultural heritage, protected by law. But what to guard here and what relation this gazebo has to the Castle of the 16th century is not clear
The place is beautiful at the confluence of the Kaspli with the Dvina River on the way from the Varangians to the Greeks Strategic with a good overview Unfortunately nothing has been preserved from the fortification A security sign has been installed
