Great hotel!! There is a large swimming pool and a bar next to it. There is an exit to the beach. There is a Russian-speaking bartender in the bar next to the restaurant. Everything is fine, but wi-fi is not catching well in the room. The staff is polite. I highly recommend it.
This year we had a rest at Theoxenia for the third time!
I must say right away that we have vacationed in much more expensive hotels and we know that Teoxenia is a modest, rather old hotel, which should have been renovated long ago. But we booked the tour here after a vacation in Crete at the Radisson. Why? Because the quality of rest in Theoxenia is much higher than the price at which Ambotis sells tours to this hotel.
The rooms are old but clean. Everything works. The water pours, the conduits are cooled, and bed linen and towels can be filmed in commercials for washing powders. Smart people repeat with us, "It's good that there is no renovation yet. They will make a renovation - the price will increase many times"
Excellent "all inclusive": there are practically no paid services that many other hotels like to offer. The beach, Internet, safes, beach towels - everything is already included in the price of the tour. The food was slightly worse this year, but I can't say that the food was bad. Those who came here several times grumbled that there were no fabulously delicious cakes and baklava. The "newcomers" who arrived at the hotel for the first time were perplexed, "Don't you like the food? After all, they cook delicious!" They really cook delicious. At home. But the meat was bad. Rather, there was an abundance of meat. But if the cutlets, meatballs and lasagna-type dishes were such that you could lick your fingers, then the steaks and souvlaki did not work out for the chefs. But the poultry and fish dishes were just WOW!
The hotel is officially on the second line. That is, between the hotel and the beach there is a road connecting Uranopolis with mainland Greece. Uranopolis is a tiny town, there are not so many hotels on Mount Athos and you can't call the traffic on the road active. But right from the main entrance to the hotel lobby, a large, clean underpass leads to the beach. So the sea is no further than 100 meters from the main entrance to the hotel. The road is lined with pine trees so that you just don't notice it.
But it's worth talking about the sea! The sea here is magnificent! In the northern part of the strait between Mount Athos and Sithonia, closer to Mount Athos, there is a tiny archipelago of islands. The largest of which is Amuliani, on which stands the same tiny town with the same name. This archipelago protects the coast of Mount Athos (and hence the beaches of the hotels) from storms. Therefore, at the beginning of the season, the water warms up faster here. And even in windy weather there are no big waves here.
The beach itself is sandy. It is perfectly equipped. There are umbrellas and sun loungers, a bar and a changing cabin and a fresh water shower. But it is necessary to enter the sea through a strip of small pebbles. Therefore, it is better to wear beach shoes.
Beginners are scared by two pipes on the beach. One is concrete, the other is plastic. But do not be afraid: the water from the pools drains from the concrete water into the sea, and the plastic goes into the depth and ends with filters - water is pumped into the pools through it.
After the strip of pebbles there is a wide sandy strip. Those who do not know how to swim, or just want to play ball in the water, like to swim here. Early in the morning, hefty mullet swims under the feet of bathers here.
Further down, at a depth, the bottom is covered with grass, in which striped perches sit, sea cucumbers lie, and rocks go into the sea along the edges of wide bays. There you can find sea urchins, octopuses and other animals.
What you definitely need to know when booking a tour to Theoxenia is that you should not chase the cheapest rooms. They are marked with the letters "Eco" - economical. These rooms are exactly the same as all the others (except for "maisonettes" and "duplexes", of course), but they are located on the first and second floors and their huge verandas open into a narrow corridor between the buildings. Or on the veranda of the restaurant. Agree that having decided to save money at home, it becomes a shame on the spot when you see that someone is admiring the sea view, and you can't go out on your veranda because people are sitting at tables a meter and a half away from you.
The hotel has practically no territory except for a patch of playground and small playgrounds for playing football and tennis.
But you can take a walk before going to bed.
We rested there for the first time in a maisonette - a two-storey room with a courtyard and a veranda on the second floor. By the way, it is an ideal option for large families: on the second floor there are two separate bedrooms and a bathroom, and on the ground floor there is a large room with a kitchenette, a sleeping place and a bathroom. The second time was on the fifth floor, this time on the fourth floor - in room 402.
Would you like to come again? - yes! And if it works out, we will come!
