The Virginia State Capitol has become the prototype of all major U.S. government buildings (in terms of architecture). Despite the fact that some rooms and the facade are under reconstruction, you can get inside. There is a free guided tour every hour, which lasts about an hour and a half. The guides work there are amazing, some have held this position for more than twenty years.
