About a year ago, the first signs of Basedova disease appeared. Nervousness arose for no reason, the eyelids began to swell, then the eyes gradually enlarged, vision dropped, and heart problems began. According to the analysis, a diffuse toxic goiter was diagnosed. The reason is most likely hereditary – my grandfather had the same diagnosis.
The doctor prescribed treatment with Thiamazole. But there was a serious side effect in the form of an allergic reaction. They were replaced with Propicil, but the symptoms worsened dramatically. It was obvious that therapy was not helping. Tachycardia was added, and there was a feeling of constriction in the neck area.
My friends advised me to contact German doctors. Specifically, to the University Clinic of Freiburg. I went out personally to Professor Mayer.
It is believed that the department of nuclear medicine there is one of the strongest in Europe. After the examination, the professor said that with my indicators, drug therapy was hardly necessary, so invasive treatment was prescribed. Various options were considered, including surgical removal of the thyroid gland, and radioiodine therapy as an alternative.
The doctor explained everything in detail, told what results should be expected. I did not decide on the operation, in the spring I want to undergo the proposed alternative therapy. Until then, I am still taking medications prescribed by Professor Mayer.
I really liked the attitude towards the patients. The doctor, although serious, is kind and friendly. There were no language problems either – an interpreter was found through the department that processes foreign patients. Of course, I'm a little afraid of going to the clinic, but my wife will go with me, it's a little calming. We are already looking for an apartment there. I hope that it will do without removing the thyroid gland.
