The Church of the Ascension of the Lord is the gate temple of the New Athos Monastery in the name of the Holy Apostle Simon the Canaanite.
It became the first temple of the monastery complex.
The church was consecrated on August 11, 1894.
The Russian Orthodox Church does NOT bless Orthodox pilgrims to participate in the sacraments on the territory of the monastery, to buy candles, souvenirs, and make donations.
The New Athos monastery ended up in the hands of persons who had dissolved their unity with the Orthodox Church.
Back in 2011, hieromonks Yerofey and Andrey were banned from the sacred ministry for their schismatic activities.
