I didn't expect this from Peninsula, it's a complete disappointment. It all started with the fact that upon arrival at the hotel, the staff did not meet us, did not pick up our suitcases from the car, there was a tourist bus at the main entrance, how is this even possible??? this is the first shock, the suitcases were pulled out by themselves, dragged by themselves. Next, we didn't get a guaranteed upgrade of the rooms. We spent an hour at the reception in a hotel where there is no lobby at all and in the Peninsula Hotel in the whole world there can be no waiting at the reception - everything is done to ensure that guests instantly go to their rooms. BUT not in Shanghai. The staff is probably not aware of this. Anyway, after an hour of fighting, we were sent to our rooms. One of them was just one and a half times smaller than the second with a window 3 times smaller, a cubicle. After long conversations (we arrived at the hotel, we moved in the evening), the kind receptionist moved us to normal rooms.
I would also like to mention the toilets in the ground floor hotel. It's such a fucker I can't put into words. Everyone goes there! Everyone who walks along the embankment is just a crowd. It is not possible to enter the toilets, people almost wash there, change clothes, make up, etc., it stinks, overflowing trash cans, dirt. Let me remind you, this is not just a hotel, it's a Peninsula... cleaners break into rooms without asking, by the way.
The hotel has a rooftop bar. So they didn't put us at the table there because they were holding it, it's not clear who to sell the package for. The hotel guests are not in favor of the bar staff. They just turned us down.
And like the icing on the cake - at check-out, the room bills were given with payment for arrival, although everything was paid before arrival. And they included in my bill the flowers that were sent to me for my birthday, but I decided that I should pay for this holiday of my life myself. Then it took a very long time to figure out why I didn't pay for the flowers sent to me for my birthday, and by the way, they were fully paid for. That I bought them myself, that my mister ordered them from the hotel concierge, etc. I spent an HOUR at the reception, let me remind you that the Peninsula Hotel does not have a lobby for waiting, as it is assumed that guests never expect anything.
All in all... it's a huge shame for Peninsula. It's a dump.
Bad breakfast, stupid room layout: it's big, but 50% is occupied by the corridor. We've had hotels in Beijing in our mouths - everything is perfect, but here it's a disappointment.
We were accommodated in a single room for the price of a 2-room room. And the Beijing Peninsula is an order of magnitude better.
The only thing is, the staff is excellent.
Otherwise, it is a complete stupid pathos.
The location is pleasant for photography
