A very significant historical place!
More than 200 years ago, a large-scale, prolonged bloody battle between Russian troops under the command of General Rayevsky and the French troops of Napoleon's army during its offensive on Moscow took place in these places. The French troops were commanded by the famous Marshal Davout.
Rayevsky forced the battle on Davout in order to distract him and allow the main Russian troops to cross the Dnieper River and retreat towards Smolensk, where they united, which completely destroyed Napoleon's plan. Davout was deceived here, in addition, he suffered heavy losses in manpower.
By the way, the legendary Akhtyrsky Hussar regiment took an active part in the battle, and of course Denis Davydov himself was part of it!
In these places, locals still find cannonballs and other evidence of the war of 1812.
The monument is small, but those who wish can find it without problems by turning towards the village of Saltanovka, Mogilev district, from the ring road near the new bridge near the Dnieper River. It is located by the road in the forest right before the entrance to Saltanovka.
