One of the most beautiful and famous squares of Europe. Saint Marc's basilica and the Doge's palace are the oldest and the most amazing buildings here. They have been here since the pre-renaissance era. The Piazza San Marco is not far above sea level and during the high water from storm surges from the Adriatic or heavy rain, it is quick to flood.
