This is exactly the place in Abkhazia that you definitely need to visit! The place is very strong, energetic, but it is better to come by yourself, without an excursion, to stay exactly as long as you need, admission is free, there is a small market nearby, a paid toilet 100 meters below, after you can go to a mini hydroelectric power station, a station with tunnels, a cable car. 2-3 hours can be spent in this place, slowly, at your own pace, without fuss on excursions

The temple itself is impressive as always. It's a pity that tourists and the tourist business make this place not holy, but just a landmark, a beautiful building. But the energy is very strong. If you listen, if you keep quiet, if you take the phone out of your hands and try to hear yourself and the voice of the Lord. There are two convenience stores with candles, icons and you can pay with a card - very convenient. The road up to the monastery sets you up for spiritual thoughts, but souvenir shops attract you. Apparently this is a test for us. And of course the views 👍

A beautiful, large cathedral. The murals on the walls and under the dome are very majestic. Candles smell like wax. There are benches throughout the temple, convenient for tired and unhealthy people.

The funny thing is that in 2013, there were scaffolding (they said it was under reconstruction), and in 2022 and 2024 nothing has changed. The easiest way to say it is on reconstruction! And so, of course, a very beautiful monastery and nature around. I always visit it and go to the cemetery of war Heroes, I don't know, for some reason it's very attractive (in general, for me personally, any military topic is interesting!) I recommend it! P. S. I love history.

The monastery of Simon the Canaanite itself, as well as the Cathedral itself, is very worldly, in other words, a place of prayer and calm.
The facade is slightly battered by time, but that's not what people who come there really need.
I was very pleased to finally get the correspondence with the holy Scriptures, that there should be no trade in the temple!
You can fill out a note, buy candles, etc. at the entrance to the monastery territory, and directly consecrate or put it in the Cathedral itself...In general, well done.
The church people will be fine there.
