At the beginning of each year, Diana is closed to the public for a month: the funicular, the observation tower itself, the restaurant and the butterfly house are closed at this time (until mid-February). And the reward for the most hardy tourists who climb the mountain on foot along the trails of the resort forest is only the tender pets of the mini-zoo, the star of which is the white Indian peacock Frosty, from time to time favorably opening a magnificent snow–white tail with a fan. In the winter of 2017, my husband and I made a walking ascent of the Diana, and in 2018, my mother and I waited for the launch of the funicular (the ticket cost 60 kronor one way, 90 round trip). They took an elevator up to the observation tower, while a group of Chinese youth climbed 150 steps up the stairs. We admired the panorama of mountains, forests, the city and the surrounding area, which were more guessed than seen because of the haze. We visited the frost-resistant cute Shetland ponies Noddy and Nancy, moderately well-fed dwarf Goettingen pigs and a cute Cameroonian goat. We waited for the peacock photo shoot. We got great pleasure from visiting the butterfly house, a micro–piece of the tropics in the snow-covered Karlovy Vary region (the price of the issue was 80 crowns, at that time a little more than 3€ per person). And we went down the picturesque mountain trails with sticks for Nordic walking, spending a little more than an hour on the way back to the hotel. The event turned out to be full of impressions, emotions, bright colors!
One of the necessary places to visit in Karlovy Vary! Tourists who come with a group by bus come here quite rarely and often do not even know about it... But there is even a definite plus in this:)
It is quite easy to get there on your own by climbing the funicular, which is called "Diana". The entrance to the funicular is located in a narrow passage to the right of the Pupp Hotel. It is better to buy a one-way ticket, so that you can then go down through the picturesque Karlovy Vary forest.
The entrance to the tower is free. You can climb both by elevator and stairs. The view from the "Diana" is amazing, both in summer and winter ...
At the foot there is one of the old restaurants of Karlovy Vary, which is also called "Diana". In summer there are tables in front of the restaurant, in winter you can sit inside. Bread soup, in my opinion, is one of the most delicious here :)
Another of the attractions is a small zoo and a white peacock that lives on the territory next to the tower. He goes everywhere :) Sometimes he sits on the windowsill of a restaurant or on a shed nearby...

There is a funicular going to the observation deck, but we decided to conquer this hill on our own. At the beginning of the way, the road is good, convenient paths lined with serpentine, but the higher, the more difficult it is to go, and at the very top there is no road as such. But we overcame it))) A handsome white peacock was waiting for us on the approaches to the observation deck. As it turned out later, there is a petting zoo on the territory, where he lives.
The tower has a staircase and an elevator: you can use any convenient way to ascend and descend. By the way, the visit is completely free.
The view, of course, is amazing. You can take very beautiful photos.
There is also a restaurant on site, where the service is very fast and friendly. The food is delicious, and so is the beer. Prices are at an average level. It's just a pity that we came to close, we didn't manage to sit for a long time, but we were very satisfied.
The restaurant, as well as the entire infrastructure on Diana, works until the last funicular.
