Shanti Stupa means pagoda of peace. The sanctuary of the Shanti Stupa was built as a symbol of peace. Located at an altitude of 1100 meters on the hill of Anadu, Nichidatsu Fujii laid the first stone along with the relics of the Buddha on September 12, 1973. Nepal has two of the eighty peace pagodas in the world: the Shanti Stupa in Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha, and the Shanti Stupa in Pokhara. The Shanti Stupa in Pokhara has also become a tourist attraction. It offers panoramic views of the Annapurna Range, Pokhara City and Fewa Lake.
