We had a rest from August 9 to August 21, 2018 with my family (me, my wife and 2 children aged 5 and 8) in Bulgaria in St. Vlas at the Saint George Palace Hotel for 12 nights. Officially, the hotel is 3* (some tour operators present it as 4*) and is located on the 3rd coastline. We came to Bulgaria for the second time, in 2016 we rested on the Golden Sands. I must say right away that this time we were very satisfied with the rest.
arrival
We took off from Moscow at 5 a.m. from Domodedovo, landed at Burgas airport at 8:30 a.m. We quickly got our luggage and went to the exit from the airport. After leaving the customs control zone, almost immediately, to the right of the exit, we saw a representative of the Tour Operator (standing at the counter with an emblem), who told us where the bus was waiting for us to transfer to the hotel. The transfer from the airport to our hotel took about 40 minutes, taking into account the fact that we drove through all the resorts along the embankment, where we dropped off other vacationers at their hotels. During the transfer, we were able to see the embankment and water parks, which were driven by several pieces.
placement
Saint George Palace Hotel is located in the village of Sveti Vlas. A minibus took us directly to the hotel, and we went to the reception for accommodation. As it turned out, we were the only ones who arrived to check into this hotel at 10 o'clock. There was an administrator named Victor behind the reception desk. Who, I must say, always kindly helped with any questions. Since we arrived early, and accommodation at the hotel is scheduled from 14:00, we were offered early accommodation for 20 euros, i.e. to prepare a room in 30 minutes + lunch, which starts at 12:00 and goes until 14 o'clock (with accommodation we didn't get into the room at 14:00, respectively, for lunch). We paid 20 euros and after 30 minutes we checked into our 2-room 86c apartment on the second floor. Fortunately, while we were waiting for the room to be prepared, there was a guide from our tour operator in the lobby of the hotel. And he kindly agreed to have an introductory conversation with us so as not to come to it in the evening. We also purchased several tour tickets from our guide at once.
Number
As I already wrote, we rested in a 2-room apartment. At the entrance there is a small hall, about 4 m2 with a table, hangers and a mirror. There is a combined toilet with a full bathroom and sink. The bedroom is 12 m2. The bedroom has a 160*200 bed, 2 bedside tables, 3-fold wardrobe, there is an exit to the balcony. The living room is combined with a kitchen, about 30 m2 and there is also an exit to the balcony. In the living room there is a large corner sofa on which the children slept, a table, 3 chairs, a kitchen set and a TV. The kitchen can be said to be no one, because there is no stove or dishes, except for 2 glasses, in it. But there is a sink, a refrigerator and a trash can. We used the kitchen set to store things. The TV shows about 200 channels. There were at least 5 Russian channels (1, rtr, rtr 24, carousel and some more). There are many foreign channels with cartoons. There is one air conditioner in the room, located in the living room.
The balcony is about 4 m2, it has 2 chairs, a table and a clothes dryer, as well as an external unit from the air conditioner. One of the disadvantages in the room is the table on the balcony, which was slightly broken, because when you lean on it, the table top fell down. We tried to handle him more carefully. He kept a bottle of wine, glasses and a tablet well. Also, several towel holders in the bathroom did not hold well, but this drawback was quickly eliminated after contacting the reception. We were also afraid at first that our toilet was leaking, but it turned out to be condensate from a cold water pipe.
The room is generally nice and clean, if you don't find fault too much. The windows of our room looked inside the hotel onto the pool and terrace, where people sat in the evenings, which did not bother us much. During the day, there was not much noise from the pool to our room. Well, in the evening, due to the lack of evening animation, only the conversations of people who were sitting downstairs could be heard.
There was no heat in the room during the day, the sun shone from the side of the hotel, but after 12:00 we had to turn on the air conditioner while we were at sea or by the pool. In the evening, during sleep, we did not turn on the air conditioner, because the room had a comfortable temperature, it is not hot at night in Bulgaria. It's about a maximum of 23 degrees and there's a slight breeze blowing.
Separate beach towels are not provided in this hotel.
ROOM CLEANING
Everything is strange with cleaning the room and changing the linen. I got the impression that they tried to sweep the room every day, but they probably washed it 3-4 times during the time (12 nights) that we rested. The change of linen is also not frequent. Our child stained the pillowcase on the 5th day, we asked to change it, and as a result, all the linen was replaced for the children. In the bedroom, my wife and I changed the linen only for the 9th day and then at our request. Towels were always changed on request. In general, I would put 3 for cleaning and changing clothes.
THE TERRITORY OF THE HOTEL
The territory of the hotel is small, there is nowhere to walk. There is a large swimming pool + a small pool for children on site. The pool water is clean and warm all day long. The pool is 10 meters wide and 25 meters long. The depth varies from 160 to 120. There are sun beds around the pool. In principle, there are enough sun beds, we have never had a single one so that we did not find a free sunbed. If someone didn't have enough sun beds, they took them out. As in all hotels, there are many cunning people who occupy the sun beds in the evening, throwing a towel there. Because our room overlooked the pool. then we could see very well which sunbeds were idle for a long time. Therefore, when there were no free sunbeds, we carefully stacked the sunbathing towels in a pile and lay down to sunbathe. Not once in all this time have there been conflicts with anyone about this.
There is a bar next to the pool, where alcoholic and soft drinks are served from 11:00. As well as tea or coffee.
There is no playground on site. The children mostly played ball on a 10 by 10 piece of land with grass growing on it. It really begs for a playground on this piece of land. Maybe the hotel administration will install it there someday.
There is a children's room in the hotel, but it was closed all the time.
There is a gym, which is open on request. There are several broken exercise machines and a table tennis table with 2 battered rackets. In general, you don't have to go there.
There is a shop in the hotel building, but it is located at the exit of the hotel, and a pharmacy.
There is no bottled water in the room, so they took it from the store or drank it in the restaurant.
animation
It can be said that there is none at all. There was one girl who was trying to do something. But whether she was too lazy, or it wasn't her business at all, or there wasn't enough of another animator, everything was boring and not incendiary. In the evening, she also organized an evening disco for the children, which, having gone once, my children did not want to go there anymore. If this wonderful animator hadn't been there, probably no one would have noticed.
On Fridays, the Bulgarian Evening was held at the hotel. Some local artists performed on it, danced and sang, and at the end danced with the guests. I'll also say that it's not the most incendiary performance, but you can take a look once.
FOOD - RESTAURANT
For food, I would put a solid 5. It was quite varied and tasty. There were no queues anywhere, except for 5-6 people who were standing at the grill, and then only at the beginning of lunch or dinner. There was no need to stand behind the grill, because there was other delicious food. There were enough tables for everyone, dirty tables were cleaned quickly. Delicious ice cream all day long. Unlimited soda (Pepsi, Sprite, Fanta) for children. Delicious coffee and tea.
I will say separately about alcoholic beverages. They are served only locally produced. My wife and I liked the beer, it was quite light, tasty and not diluted. From strong spirits – tequila is so-so, Rakia too. Decent locally produced Savoi whiskey and Brandy. I haven't tried rum or vodka. We also drank a delicious cocktail with mint liqueur and Sprite with my wife.
beach
The hotel does not have its own beach, we had to use a public beach. But to be honest, walking along the embankment, I did not find more than one beach from the hotel, all beaches are public. It takes a maximum of 10 minutes to walk to the beach from the hotel at a leisurely pace along quiet and beautiful streets past excellent apartments. By the way, on the way to the beach there is an excellent coffee machine of a famous Italian company (starts with L), with very tasty coffee and hot chocolate. The beach strip is quite narrow, in the Golden Sands, where we were 2 years ago, the beach is much better. But despite the small beach, it is equipped with sun beds and umbrellas, which in August cost too much in my opinion – 9 lev for a sunbed and 9 lev for an umbrella. Money for sun beds and an umbrella is collected regularly. You can also stay on the beach on your own. There are also a couple of bars on the beach. Where can I get something?Draft beer 3 lev. Canned from 4 to 5 lev, we took Guinness with a nitrogen capsule for 5 lev., very tasty beer. Soda in the bar is 3 leva, there is food, but we did not take it.
The sea is clear. The entrance to the sea is gentle, in order to swim, an adult must move at least 100 meters from the shore. But it's cool for kids. There is a constant breeze blowing from the sea on the beach. Children should be wiped off after bathing or buried in warm sand, otherwise they tremble in the wind. There were no jellyfish or algae in the sea. It stormed only 1 time and then not much.
There is a shower on the beach, though only one on the beach strip, and changing rooms. There are also lifeguards on the beach.
THE EXTERNAL TERRITORY OF THE HOTEL.
Every evening, my wife and I went for a walk around the neighborhood of St. Vlas. A quiet and peaceful settlement. Creates the impression of home comfort. There is no resort fuss. The people around are mostly Russian speakers, many live either permanently in Bulgaria or come to their apartments. If you climb a little uphill from the hotel, then after about 1 km you can come to the central St. Vlas square, where there are many restaurants and shops. There are also 2 large supermarkets near the hotel. If you go out on the highway and go left 500 meters, you will reach the mercury supermarket, if you go left 1 km, you will reach the supermarket. Both supermarkets have everything your heart desires, even souvenirs and Bulgarian cosmetics can be bought there.
You can also walk from the hotel to the Marina Dinevi Yacht Port, this trip with the children took us 30 minutes (a bit far). It's full of all kinds of restaurants and entertainment for the evening
At the end of the review, I repeat that my family and I liked everything very much, we set the hotel a solid 4. If the hotel makes good animation and a children's playground, then you can set a solid 5. We strongly recommend this hotel to visit.
