It was formed about 250 years ago due to a small earthquake. But there are several legends, like everything beautiful, read at your leisure if you wish. It is located at an altitude of 950 m above sea level in the basin of the Bzyp River, surrounded by mountain ranges with wooded slopes. The area is 1.5 km2, length is 2.5 km, width is from 270 to 870 meters. The average depth is 63 m, but the highest is 116 m. The lake is alive, there are trout and whitefish here, there are microalgae. The color of the lake varies depending on the time of year, but it is always charming. In spring and summer, the green-yellow color of the water prevails, in autumn and winter — cold blue-blue. This is due to the different transparency of the water of the flowing rivers. But the water in the Ritz is so clean that it is clearly visible to a depth of 8-10 meters. In a very hot summer, it warms up to 18-20 degrees, it's still cold for me. There is a small beach, but swimming in the Ritz is prohibited. The main thing is that the place is protected, protected. To protect flora and fauna, so as not to disturb the microclimate. Well, because the water is cool, the lake is deep, the bottom of the lake is rocks, trees, branches. But to sunbathe on the sun beds, that's fine. In July 2024, we went on an excursion to the National Park.in the park and on the lake.The Ritz. the nature is magnificent, the lake is clean, the beauty is all around. On the way there are many local attractions, a canyon, small waterfalls, a blue lake, beautiful blue mountain rivers. It is also interesting to see bungee jumping across the mountain river. The air is clean and even sweet, mountain ranges up to 1.5 km high are covered with fluffy mixed forests. Along the way, beekeepers put up their beehives with bees. The minus of the excursion is the constant visits to the points of sale of wine, cheeses, honey, so the road to the lake takes almost 2.5 hours. The way back is much shorter. The lake itself and the landscape are very beautiful, catamarans float on the water, but there are crowds of tourists around it, there is a brisk trade, a lot of tents and food shops, smells and noise. . The people are swarming. Apparently, those who want to enjoy the silence and nature do not need to go there at the height of the season, but in any case, the plus and the positive from what they saw cover these shortcomings!

We visited the reserve twice, the first time in April, the second time in August, we decided to show our daughter, who did not come with us for the first time.The views are amazing!!!Almost every turn is a new picture!!!We traveled in our own car, so we took our time, drank coffee only upon arrival at the Ritz.Yes, it is true that entry to the territory of the reserve is paid, but the guys are the national treasure of Abkhazia.And I would really like all this beauty to be preserved.In spring, the water in the rivers is so clean that I wanted to get out of the car and walk barefoot and drink directly from the river.The nature is simply amazing!!!We were probably lucky, no one charged us for parking at the lake.We took a snack with us, and on the way back we had dinner outside the territory.I want to say that if you are traveling by car, finish your walk in the light, the route is difficult and local drivers are not particularly gallant, as they are everywhere in Abkhazia.And even if you travel in the summer, I advise you to take something to throw on, it's always cooler in the mountains.God willing , I think we will visit it for the third time

I'll make a reservation right away that I'm not evaluating the beauty of this region of Abkhazia, not Lake Ritsa, not waterfalls, gorges, etc. but I'm evaluating the organization and infrastructure of the park.
On the plus side: there are garbage cans along the Ricin highway. There are not very many of them, but there are.
Cons: COMPLETE LACK OF TOILETS!!! No. No bad ones, no paid ones, just zero. Starting from the turn from the Gagra district towards the national park, the checkpoint of the national park and all the way to Lake Ritsa there are none.
If the algorithms miss the photo, see for yourself how tourists, with the light hand of the organizers of the tourist process, pollute any available forest and river corners of the park, turning them into one big toilet.
Practically, the only way out in this situation is to go to cafes or tasting rooms of wine, chacha, cheese. And, it won't always be free. Most likely, you will be " forced " to eat, drink, or buy something. If you want to come in, there is a second headache - the lack of parking if you travel by car on your own. Parking will also have to be paid for. The average cost of parking for tourists in the area of the national park is 500 - 1000 rubles per stop (parking), no matter how many minutes you stopped.
There are paid toilets on Lake Ritsa itself. The cost of a visit is from 20- 50 rubles, if you are lucky. The toilets are dirty. Almost the entire staff of Lake Ritsa cannot or does not want to " give out " information about the availability of toilets. Many Cafes on the lake do not have toilets. But there are levies from tourists on cars, which so bring a lot of money to the local budget in the form of an entrance fee to the national park - 700 rubles per person (paid at the Ritz checkpoint) and paid parking on the lake or the need to buy lunch at a local cafe in the amount of at least 1000 rubles (otherwise they do not give a parking receipt). Certain catering establishments are assigned to each parking lot. It is necessary to check with the parking guard which ones, otherwise parking will have to be paid in excess of this amount.

I have been to Abkhazia 5 times at different times of the year (we have never been in autumn yet) and always dreamed of getting to Lake Ritsa - almost the country's calling card. But in each of the first four times, for various reasons, I could not do it - in winter there were snowfalls and it was dangerous to drive along the serpentine, in summer there was not enough time, then someone got sick. In general - the fifth time - and - hello, Ritsa!
Of course, it's beautiful, grandiose, a lot of tourists, but... I would not go here a second time - there is nothing special to do - you can not swim in the lake, you can ride a catamaran, there are few places to walk and sit on the territory.

You can walk along the shore or take a catamaran ride on the surface of the lake.
There is Parking, you can come in your own car. I wouldn't go with small children. The road is long and tedious.

July 2024, we decided to go on our own by car to the island of Ritsa, on the road you will meet a checkpoint where you will pay 700 rubles per person (just for entering the park). Arriving at Lake Ritsa, there are signs parking is prohibited, the mummers show you so that you drive further to the parking lot, well, having arrived at the parking lot, a "guard" or a boor approaches you, if to put it very mildly to another word, says parking is paid from you 200r. Well, I paid with a little indignation and asked for a parking ticket, to which I heard rudeness in my address (take your cart and leave here and take your money). I didn't say anything, I just left. There is a lot of trade and cars on the lake, jeeps and local excursions. There is ONE functioning toilet on the territory of the lake. The cost per person is 20 rubles. There are cafes, but not everywhere you can pay without cash. To eat not very tasty food, you will have to pay 1000 rubles per person. Catamarans are a separate topic, if you want to ride together, then you will be asked for 1500 rubles, but 500 rubles per person. It's just a three-seater catamaran, so 1500r (funny). We went to the left bank and said 1000 rubles for two people in 30 minutes. In general, it's crazy, if a tourist has arrived, this does not mean that you need to take a lot of money from him. Before that, we went to Elbrus, I really liked it, it's very beautiful and the entrance is free and parking is also free and the toilet is also free. And housing is much cheaper and more comfortable than in Abkhazia. We went to Abkhazia purely to swim and go to my village on the island of Ritsa. I have been to Abkhazia five times, and every time the attitude towards it gets worse. We probably won't go there anymore. The path from the parking lot to the lake is rubble. The toilets are all paid, old (not the toilet), they stink. The market starts and take a picture with everything. We decided to take a trip to the lake with the company. The driver's name was Yuri, we agreed with him about a trip to the Rizza, because I didn't want to take him to other places. He picked us up from Adler in his own caravel car with Moscow plates and we drove off... As a result, the food was terrible, they gave 6k rubles, which included a service fee and were disappointed in both food and service. But then it turned out that this same Yuri ate for free, and even he was paid% off for leaving money in this institution... The way back was beautiful, but Yuri also continued to stop us from his "proven" places and always came in first to have time to say that he had "brought guests", from each such eatery he received % ... Because of him and his pointlessly imposed places for us to "solder" tourists, we did not have time to swim in the sea, and when asked to take us to a normal winery, which was 30 km away, we were charged + 2k ... As a result, the trip did not meet our hopes and expectations. Upon arrival in Adler, Yuri was paid the originally agreed 10k...
I RECOMMEND TO EVERYONE who goes with some kind of driver to Abkhazia, do not see each other for a divorce, all the "homemade wine" is dyed, with all sorts of flavor enhancers and it is generally not clear where it was brought from, all the bottles are the same and equally signed, the same "chacha", the golden alcohol and all these tinctures are the same. People, don't waste time, money, fuel on this! They charge money for everything: entry of 800 rubles per person (and if there was anything!!! For the service?? For the roads?? For parking lots?? For parking near the lake?? For the toilets???? NO!!!) Toilet 20p, parking 200p, catamaran 500p PER PERSON, NOT FOR A CATAMARAN! You can not swim, only at one or two parking lots near the river.
And the views, you can't say that wow... At every corner, they want to mow down money from you in the most brazen way. Plus, the staff is rude EVERYWHERE! It feels like Georgians were kicked out of everything except this lake in the 90s.
I traveled all over Europe, saw a lot of things, came to Abkhazia - I was delighted until the moment of the trip to this lake!

Lake Ritsa is located in the reserve. It is a mountain lake, very deep. The water in the lake is always flowing and it does not warm up even in summer. Very clean. The lake is surrounded by mountains and there is a lot of vegetation. A very beautiful mountain road leads to the lake. You're looking for gorges. The lake is located at a fairly high altitude. There are a lot of interesting things.

Beautiful nature and that's it. The near shore resembles the Cherkizovskaya market of the 90s. Obtrusive service and unreasonably high prices are disgusting.
Parking is generally very unpleasant: Unidentified persons who walked along the road in camouflage pants extorted money for parking.
Firstly, according to the rules of the visit, parking is not paid. Secondly, a sign about the cost of 20 rubles per hour is hidden in the bushes, they demanded 200 rubles for 2 hours from us. He reacted to the offer to pay according to the price tag with insults and threats.
the cost of parking should be included in the ticket price (the car was paid 2800 actually!!). it is completely ugly to rip off tourists with unreasonably dubious persons without a receipt.
On the side of Stalin's dacha, there is another official levy for entry, but we believe that this is a fee for good parking in the shade of trees.

Perhaps one of the most beautiful places. It is a very picturesque road, you can stop every km and enjoy the views and breathe the mountain air!
It's very cool to drive your own car, because you can drive at your own pace and make stops wherever you want and for as long as you want.
Plan for a trip of at least 5 hours, preferably a whole day.
There is a lot of food on the way, the prices are adequate (not like at the airport).
There are toilets too.
Take blankets or rugs with you to relax in the open air.
Entry is paid, like 800 rubles / person, it's worth it!

When I arrived at the park, the bus guide bought tickets in front of me. She just gave 15t to the ticket office, did not take tickets, and took the rest of the collected money for herself. I.e., the park administration begins to cheat from the very beginning, even at the entrance. Parking is paid 200 rubles per car, without a receipt or anything. Check-in at Stalin's dacha is also paid, 250 rubles per person 😂
One of the advantages. The place is beautiful, to come and not climb the small Ritz, a big omission, it needs to be done)
