The ancient Odeon Forum in Plovdiv is the largest in Bulgaria. It was built at the end of the 1st century AD. Philippopolis then acquired a new city plan and a Roman-style center (forum). It covers an area of 11 hectares, with shops of the same size on all three sides and public buildings in the north.
The Odeon is located in the northern part of the Forum. The ancient odeon is designed for 300-350 seats and served as the residence of the Philippopolis City Council. Later it was turned into a theater.
Today, the Odeon is used for chamber theater, music and literary events.
