The Port of Jaffa, one of the oldest ports in the world, is located in the Old City of Jaffa. The history of the city and the port has more than 3 thousand years.
The port is mentioned in the Book of the Prophet Jonah. Jonah, initially afraid of a trip to preach to the Gentiles, decided to sail by ship from the port of Jaffa to Tarshish.
At the entrance to the port, not far from the shore, stands the Andromeda rock, to which Andromeda, sacrificed to the monster, was chained, and where Perseus saw her, who turned the monster into stone, showing the face of the Gorgon Medusa.
During the Ottoman period, the first Jewish settlers began to stay through the port.In the middle of the 19th century, the port served 6 shipping companies and received up to 5 passenger ships per week. There was also a Russian Line from Odessa among them. Up to 10,000 pilgrims came to the Holy Land annually through the port of Jaffa at that time.
In 1920, the port was rebuilt, breakwaters, warehouses, telegraph lines and a lighthouse were built.
The Jaffa Lighthouse is located on a cliff directly above the port.
The port of Jaffa was not a deep-water port, ships were unloaded on the high seas, cargo was transported by small vessels. When the deepwater port in Haifa was opened in 1933, cargo turnover and the importance of the Jaffa port dropped sharply, and the port was closed.
Currently, the port continues to function as a small fishing port, as well as a marina for yachts and pleasure craft.
The territory of the port is a recreation area with exhibition halls, restaurants and cafes ...
How pleasant it is in the early evening (just not on Fridays!)walk along the embankment, look at the rock from the myths of Ancient Greece, slowly drink a cup of divine coffee, take a look at the horizon...and still remember for Odessa...Wow!

I recommend a visit. There are a lot of restaurants and cafes. I really liked the fish restaurant. Excellent sights in old JAFFO. I recommend looking at the hanging orange tree, which is not difficult to find in the old town of YAFFO.
A wide embankment, a sandy beach, a popular restaurant "The Old Man and the Sea" in the port, where tourists from different countries always try to get to.
