The ocean in the 1st half of April is full of waves, but it is so warm and comfortable. Hikkaduwa Beach is mainly for surfers. Many people learn to stay on the board here. If you have small children, then look for quieter beaches, Mr. Unawatuna. Our beach was clean, there were a lot of cafes, and the portions were large. It's not suitable for snorkeling, you don't have to take masks, but in one place the mask came in handy-on turtle beach. The rest is great, a lot of impressions from both the ocean and the mountainous Sri Lanka. The locals are smiling. Take tours at kiosks-it's cheaper this way than from tour operators. Sri Lanka is my new love...
A large beach line, clean, there are many cafes with sun beds and canopies, for surf lovers you can take lessons on training or rental, there are remnants of the reef in places, so you need to be careful not to get hurt, there is a turtle beach nearby where you can take pictures of large sea turtles.
Excellent multi-kilometer sandy beach. Clean sand, warm sea. But the waves are strong enough. But it's good for surfers.
We walked after sunset, deserted, calm, warm and absolutely safe.
A beautiful beach with silky heavy amber sand....waves break on the reef, and it is comfortable to swim in the lagoon..around the turtle..fish...palm trees,,magnolias grow on the beach,,and palm squirrels run along the palm trees
I highly recommend it, especially if it's your first time abroad. Clean sandy beaches, kind people, low prices, interesting flora and fauna. Don't forget the action camera and underwater goggles, there's plenty to see.
Clear. Rescuers are constantly on duty. They are monitoring the situation very closely. There were very big waves, so I couldn't swim. We had a rest at the end of February.
Sandy beach. There aren't many people. There are sun beds. There are cafes. There are waves, but they do not come very strong to the shore, they do not pull down.
Clean and beautiful beach. There are many surf schools. The ocean is always full of waves.Swim either near the shore in foam, or swim behind the waves, where the water is calm.
A very nice beach, there are areas with waves for surfing, there are areas without waves, with a sandy bottom for a calm swim
There are many bars and restaurants right on the coast, but the price tags there are not small
The main thing is not to take coconuts from the singers - they ask for 500, 150 on the market
A very comfortable place. Strong waves. Surfing school. The hotel is 2 stars, but everything is clean and tidy. Prices are like in Thailand. Friendly staff
The beach is cool, especially for surfing. However, big waves are a huge ocean. The most normal beach is near the market (to the left of it, if you look at the sea): It's deep and there are no waves. We haven't found any beach fleas in two weeks.
During our vacation (mid-March), the waves were constant. It was not possible to swim on the beaches of Ya Hikkaduwa. We went to Unawatuna. But it is very pleasant to walk here in the morning when the sun has just risen. The beaches are very wide and the entrance to the sea is gentle if you find a place to go)
I advise everyone! A gorgeous and very clean beach!!!The people are very friendly. There is a lot of coffee on the shore, where you can have a very tasty meal.
