I went to the antique Side for several nights in a row. This area is impressive. In the very center of the Agora was the temple of Tyukhe, the ancient Greek goddess of luck. 2nd century AD. I've been to various ancient cities, but Side is my love!
An atmospheric place. It is not necessary to take a guide, you can take a city minibus yourself, for about $ 2. Here, as they say: to look at the old days, and to shop, and have a delicious meal in a restaurant overlooking the sea
Antique Side is suitable for those who like to climb ancient ruins) there are also various cafes and shops on the coast. There are free public toilets, clean. We were satisfied with the trip. I was pleased with the transport accessibility, the bus station is right at the beginning of the tourist route. You need to go early in the morning or in the evening, it's very hot in summer)
There is a very interesting building in the old town of Side, the Agora. This was the name of the largest of the market squares in Ancient Greece: There were meetings going on, there was a trade. There were tents, temples, special rooms for artisans and much more. And along the perimeter of the Agora, a small fence was fenced off from the city — exactly as we see it now in the markets.
The agora in Side is a square, the date of construction is the second century. There were shopping malls here, but, of course, they have not been preserved: only the foundation remains of them.
Nowadays, only the foundations of the premises that served the shopping malls and the premises for merchants themselves remain. These rows are placed in the shape of the letter "P", the free side was near the Roman Theater.
There was a special exit from the west, it led to the street. At the same time, the shops near the shopping malls were made like this: some went out onto the street, and others onto the square.
During the heyday of the Roman Empire, almost everything could be bought on the Agora: from clothes and food to slaves.
To understand what used to exist in the center of the Agora, archaeologists were helped by a coin with an image of a shopping area: there was a temple building of the goddess of fortune Tyukhe. The roof of the temple was made in the form of a pyramid, which had 12 sides. An image of Sagittarius, Scorpio and other zodiac signs was found on the roof.
If you really want to take a look at the landmark of the Agora, which has reached our days in almost unchanged condition, then you should pay attention to the so-called latrine, or toilet. It was a semicircular hall with marble that lined the walls. Curiously, of all that has been preserved in the Agora, the public toilet turned out to be the most intact, and for 24 people.
But that's not all: the trading Agora had access to the city, with the walls of Philip Attias. The urban agora, made in the shape of a square, was smaller in area. Apparently, because only urban issues were solved here, but one thing is clear from the commercial purpose of the square: slaves were traded here.
The entire Agora complex is included in the so-called "fields of ruins". The rest is the Byzantine Basilica and the library. All these buildings belong to the ancient Side, where you can study the history of the Roman Empire.
Very beautiful free attractions, you can easily get from Cholakla by minibus *4 (to the final one). There are many ruins, beautiful statues. A great opportunity for a budget tour of the sights of the door.
A very interesting place and, importantly for the Russian mentality, )) with free entrance to the main territory. You can wander for at least 3 hours and look at mosaics on floors, inlays of stones, walls and openings, and foundations of all stripes.
Tickets are only in lira. We wanted to see the theater, but it's not there. Cool, ancient ruins, sculptures. Don't go out in the heat. I wouldn't go a second time.
An incredibly beautiful place in the ancient city of Side
Beautiful photos are taken in the morning, and doubly so in the evening, because the backlight turns on👍🏻
You need to carefully look at each building, because it is very surprising how well all the details have been preserved👌🏻
A great place for lovers of antiquities. The bus arrives right at the beginning of the journey. Then you can walk to explore everything, or take a bus to the beginning of the shopping malls. We drove in the morning around 08 and the ancient city was completely empty. And on another visit in the evening there were already a lot of people.
delight.
we went on foot through the bushes, to the left of the main road. We passed by the ruins of the basilica of Medusa Gargona,
and then ...
walked around everything in a circle.
we went out to a large amphitheater, but it is closed
, the impression is good, you can just imagine animals coming through the huge gates... how people walked ... going to the spectacle..
then we went down to the port, along the streets of old Side ...
it's certainly amazing there, the ruins of the temple of Apollo... the stones, the sea...
it is necessary to go here
We got tired and drove back to the bus terminal on an electric cart...
A well-preserved part of the agora in ancient Side. Restoration work is currently underway. It is better to go in the morning when it is cool. The museum is open until 17.00.
A beautiful ancient city, some elements are well preserved. Before the trip, I advise you to read the history of Side, it will be more interesting to walk around the center. But among the workers restoring the ruins there are beggars, be careful.
It's getting more beautiful every year, it's a pity the neighboring beach was closed. Entrance from the sea is still free. At night, the backlight creates a chic look.
When you come here, it's like you get to ancient Rome, there is also an amphitheater where gladiators fought before our era. Columns from the temple of Apollo and the palace of Aphrodite. I wish everyone to get to this place of power. There are fewer and fewer such places on earth.

It is not clear why this monument to Side was moved to a separate landmark in Side - it is located on the territory of the ancient city. The entrance to the territory of which costs 17 euros (January 2025) or you can use a museum pass - museum card.
Visiting this place left a lot of impressions. Although the excavations are still ongoing, there is something to see. The amphitheater alone is worth a lot. It has awesome acoustics inside. And the buildings of those times are impressive. When you go to the embankment, you can see various buildings of those times under the glass. There are shops in the preserved houses of those times.
A very beautiful place. Through it you can go to the beach, relax and continue studying. In such places, you definitely need to take a break and evaluate what you have already seen and what impression it made on you. I advise you to visit.
There is an attraction on every meter, it is very exciting to spend time and accessible to everyone, you just need to get here. And there the legs carry themselves, the hands take pictures of themselves
It is interesting to take a walk on your own and with an excursion, there are plenty of souvenir shops and cafes in the area. You can get from the hotels of the same manavgat by bass for 1-1.5 dollars
We chose a vacation in Side specifically to visit the Ancient city. In February we visited the museum and the amphitheater, and in July we met the dawn, walked along the embankment...
