When choosing a hotel, I was guided by the reviews of tourists.
I chose among the hotels with a high rating.
It was fundamentally important for me that PAPOUIS PROTARAS HOTEL 3* is not a chain hotel of the Tsokkos Hotels system.
Overbooking is flourishing in this hotel system.
That is, a tourist who has bought a tour package to one hotel of this network can, without his consent, be settled in another hotel of this network, which can be much worse (old dead furniture and plumbing, the smell of sewage and detergents, dirt in the hotel, poor cleaning and service, ants/cockroaches/bedbugs in the room, far from the beach, strong noise from bars/karaoke until the morning, poor sound insulation in the room and much more).
I chose a room with a mountain view (Standard Mountain View) because the reviews wrote that:
+ This side is in the shade during the day, so it's not hot, you can sit on the balcony during the day and not languish from the heat. All right. Due to this, the air conditioner was not used at all, and without it the temperature in the room was comfortable.
+ This side of the hotel is quieter than the Sea View (Standard Sea View), which overlooks the pool and bar where from 10:00 to 24:00 the noise from the bar and animation.
In fact, on the side with a view of the mountains (even-numbered rooms) on some days there was so much noise from nearby hotels and restaurants (music, songs, screams until 04:00 in the morning) that I had to close the balcony tightly in the evening to fall asleep.
Food.
We took HB (breakfast and dinner). It's quite enough, it's hot in the afternoon and I don't want to eat. In addition, with this type of food, it is not "tied" to the hotel as with All (all inclusive). And you can have lunch in the numerous cafes and restaurants of Protaras.
When evaluated on a five-point scale, the food in the hotel can be given a solid "four".
It is quite varied and tasty for 3*.
The choice of the beach.
Beaches-coves (see the map of Protaras).
This is the bay closest to the hotel ("Potam Bay"), which you run into if you go from the hotel to the sea (I would not recommend it because there is a sewer on the shore of this bay, stones in the water, gray sand with pebbles).
As well as the second and third ("Pernera Bay", "Pernera Bay") bays to her left and the bay "Fig Tree Bay" ("Fig Tree Bay") to her right.
The advantages of all these bays are that:
+ There are no big waves in strong winds.
+ The water in them is warmer than on a large municipal beach.
+ The bays are small and suitable for children and those who cannot swim or swim badly.
Disadvantages of all bays:
- the water in them is dirty.
The sand on all beaches from "Perner Bay" to "Fig Tree Bay" is quite dirty (cigarette butts, garbage).
We went to Pernera Bay beach only on the first and last day. The rest of the days we went to the large municipal beach Vryssi Beach. We stayed between the Vrissaki Beach and Vrissiana Beach hotels.
The advantages of the large Vryssi Beach:
+ blue flag. He testifies that the beach has been successfully tested according to 27 international criteria, it is clean and meets environmental standards.
There is a pattern of white stripes on the flag, which means that this is a high-comfort beach.
There are almost no beaches approved by the Blue Flag award on the territory of Russia and Ukraine,
+ the water is very clean, transparent,
+ sandy beach,
+ gentle entrance to the water,
+ the length of the beach is ~ 900 meters,
+ wide beach strip (~ 30-50 meters), half of the beach - without umbrellas and sun beds (you can sunbathe on your towel on the sand, with your umbrella).
+ there are areas on the beach where there are few people (where pontoons with water entertainment are installed). But there are no umbrellas and sun beds in these areas,
+ a lot of water activities (paragliding (parachuting behind a motorboat), water skiing, canoeing, catamaran, windsurfing, riding a "tablet" – a round inflatable shell, similar to a children's inflatable pool with side handles, jet ski, etc.)
+ toilets (free),
+ showers (free),
+ footwashers (free of charge),
+ changing rooms (free of charge),
+ parking (free of charge),
+ cafes, restaurants,
+ rescuers.
Cons of the large Vryssi Beach:
- the water temperature is lower than in the bays.
- there are no breakwaters, respectively, large waves in strong winds. (Relevant primarily for children).
- in very strong winds, the waves can be so large that a red flag will be hung on the beach (swimming is prohibited).
- there are areas with rocky bottoms in the water, .
When evaluated on a five-point scale, the large municipal beach Vryssi Beach is a solid 4.
We were satisfied with our stay in Protaras and directly at the PAPOUIS PROTARAS HOTEL 3*. What they hoped for, they got.
But if we gather in Protaras again, we will probably choose a hotel closer to the large municipal beach Vryssi Beach.
The hotel is good, not far from the sea, the staff is all friendly, many understand Russian. The food was basically delicious, varied, the children really only ate fries with nuggets.🤦🏻♀️ Very tasty croissants for breakfast. The animator is a Russian girl, the children do not part with her all evening, songs, dances, contests, in general, the children were busy, we are free 😁
The room was cleaned every day, although our towels quickly fell into disrepair, but new ones were constantly brought to us, although it is written that they are changed every three days. They have VERY arrogant sparrows!! If you decide to eat outside, do not leave the food unattended!! They swoop in, they spread everything in a minute))
There is an iron at the reception, a small refrigerator in the room, a TV (there is even 1 Russian channel), a hair dryer, soaps for hands, hair, and a shower.
There is a small playground, slot machines (football, hockey, toy machine) billiards, a tennis table (rackets at the animator), a swimming pool, there is a children's, there is an adult.
The bar, if you have everything included, is generally super 👍😁 cocktails tried everything, everything is great, my husband and I liked it))
Personally, I didn't like Protaras (and even then, it's not even Protaras, but its suburb), it's quiet, there's nowhere to walk, there are no people. And the hotel is a credit, despite the 3 stars.
A super hotel, budget, but very cozy, delicious food, cocktails are just a bomb 🙌 will show their variety, they are done conscientiously. One of the few places where there is an "all inclusive". The only thing I didn't really like was the old rooms, maybe we weren't very lucky with the rooms.
There is also a small playground, billiards, table tennis and air hockey.
There is free Wi-Fi, which catches well throughout the territory 👍🏻
