The Church of the Mother of God in Avnevi represents the architectural features and construction quality of Georgian architecture of the late Middle Ages, dating from the 14th or 15th century. It is a small cross-domed building with 2 entrances: one from the south, the other from the west. There are several stone carvings. One on the western facade depicts the Virgin Mary, Christ and John the Baptist. These stone reliefs date back to the 10th century.
