Disappointed. The monastery is in a dilapidated state. The central temple has been restored only from the outside. Some of the living quarters around are completely abandoned. A very iconic place and beautiful views. I gave 4 points for that alone. I really want to believe that everything will be restored someday

The New Athos Monastery was visited in July 2024. Since it was very hot and, accordingly, we were in shorts, at the entrance to the monastery they offered us to cover our legs, i.e. they gave us like long skirts with ties and if the head was uncovered, we could take a handkerchief, but we were allowed to stay in caps. The large territory of the monastery is fenced, inside the temple you can admire the frescoes and listen to singing, it is very fascinating. In front of the monastery itself there is a very beautiful view of the sea and New Athos.

The temple is very beautiful, the location is impressive. The most beautiful view of the sea from there. Candles can be bought, notes can be written and at the same time payment by card is possible, although my card did not work for some reason. There are benches inside, which is very convenient after walking and for the elderly! Next to one of Stalin's dachas, you can combine viewing.

I will not be clever and quote history textbooks about the formation of this monastery and its life. It is clear that the monastery is ancient. They were badly battered during the conflict in the 90s after the collapse of the USSR. There are still bullet marks on the walls. During the war, there was a kind of hospital there. The place is salted and clean. There are a lot of tourists, which pleases, but makes it difficult to concentrate; there are few local parishioners, which is depressing. Views of the sea and the background of the mountain - the surrounding environment is impressive. Time will pass, opportunities will come - everything will be restored and it will shine with renewed vigor. Although the main thing is not the external radiance, but the inner strength.

We arrived in our car in new Athos. While they found a place to hide, they climbed the mountain on foot. It's a bit heavy, of course, but it's worth it. The views from above are extraordinary. We did not visit the monastery itself, but we did not plan to. We have never regretted the trip. We went down from the monastery to the waterfalls and it was not easy either.

Of course, there are a lot of abandoned buildings along the way, but the monastery itself, the garden, the waterfall are worth seeing. And there is a sense of calmness and grandeur in the monastery. Being in Abkhazia for the second time, I chose New Athos to visit.If the tours coincide in many ways (Pitsunda, Gagra, waterfalls), then there were also cathedrals. I was very determined to visit them, I put on a skirt in such a heat and took a handkerchief on my head. She entered, as usual, into the temple, where icons of all Orthodox saints hang and familiar prayers were quietly recited. But! For some reason, I couldn't get the feeling of warmth and security that I usually feel in other churches. I was upset that God doesn't hear my prayers now, because I'm on vacation! Maybe I'm not in the right mood!And only now I found out that this monastery is schismatic! That's the answer, God doesn't hear me here! I'm surprised! A very epic place for those who like history and architectural monuments, religion, etc.
Only the Main Pokrovsky Cathedral is open to the public and only with strict observance of the monastery's Charter: even men in shorts will have to cover their knees (at the entrance, everyone who needs to will be offered shawls and aprons).
Photo and video shooting is not prohibited…
The road to the monastery is white limestone: your car is "sanctified"!!!
The main part of the monastery is inaccessible to visitors and there is still a lot of work to be done on construction and decoration inside - it is not as beautiful as outside, so we are not greedy and leave donations)))

The New Athos Monastery impresses with its beauty and grandeur. It was founded in 1875 by monks who came from the Greek Old Athos. In 1924, the monastery was closed, but in 1994 it was consecrated again.
The complex consists of five temples: Panteleimon Cathedral, the Church of the Ascension of the Lord, the Church of St. Simon the Canaanite, the Church of St. Andrew the First-Called and the temple of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God. The interior of the cathedrals is very beautiful, everything is decorated with frescoes. There is also a library where unique books are collected.
It is definitely worth climbing the bell tower of the monastery. There is a magnificent view of the surrounding area.
Despite the fact that the New Athos Monastery is active, it is open to tourists. However, while inside, it is necessary to observe the rules of conduct in holy places.

There is a beautiful view from the observation deck! There is a park nearby! Black swans! There was no wow effect with the tour ! For all 10-15 minutes ! I think if you go by yourself you can find many beautiful locations! The nature of Abkhazia is very impressive and makes you fall in love with yourself 🤩

A quiet, pleasant place.
You can go to the temple. At the entrance, they give a skirt and a scarf. But I would recommend taking a personal headdress with you (for hygienic reasons).
Inside the temple there is a hand-painted painting, which they are trying to preserve with all their might.
There are many shops (at least), which is very remarkable for Christian churches and temples.
The sound of the church choir is constantly played through the speakers.
There is a small park outside.
