It is very picturesque inside, there are many frescoes, you can take pictures and shoot videos. The main thing in such places is not to violate the rules of attendance and behavior.

But I do not recommend buying something from merchants around him. I bought lavrushka, churchkhella and tkemali sauce there. I threw out the lavrushka because most of it was eaten by aphids, I threw out the churchkhella, because it was put in a cellophane bag by the evening in a hot bus, it was just covered with mold and seemed to ferment because it smelled strongly of wine. One tkemali sauce turned out to be good. As a result, the impression of the trip to the monastery was spoiled.

On the plus side: I was amazed by the cathedral inside! I want to sit there endlessly (there are benches), contemplate, listen to soft church singing. Peace, complete immersion in your thoughts, feelings ... cannot be expressed in words! The color scheme of the frescoes reminded of the Savior on Blood. But there's a mosaic. And here it is the frescoes.
Of the minuses: the church shop is located at the entrance, where people crowd, wearing skirts and headscarves. And somehow you skip this place. There is no place to buy candles in the temple itself. And there's nowhere to put them there. In my opinion, there are only two places. I was also surprised by the shabby appearance of the monastery itself, and inside the cathedral. There is a great desire to summon restorers there as a matter of urgency. The entrance is 700₽. There are a lot of people. Is it really not possible to allocate money for restoration?!

I will not be clever and quote history textbooks about the formation of this monastery and its life. It is clear that the monastery is ancient. They were badly battered during the conflict in the 90s after the collapse of the USSR. There are still bullet marks on the walls. During the war, there was a kind of hospital there. The place is salted and clean. There are a lot of tourists, which pleases, but makes it difficult to concentrate; there are few local parishioners, which is depressing. Views of the sea and the background of the mountain - the surrounding environment is impressive. Time will pass, opportunities will come - everything will be restored and it will shine with renewed vigor. Although the main thing is not the external radiance, but the inner strength.

Recently I went to Abkhazia with friends. Gagra, Gudauta, New Athos, Pitsunda, Sukhum.
The last time I was in the New Athos Monastery was in Soviet times. The restoration of the complex has begun from the main temple: the basement has been drained, the facade has been painted, the domes are covered with gold. Inside the temple, the sight is, of course, sad. The frescoes on the walls are peeling off. Despite this, angelic singing is quietly heard inside the temple, as if from heaven. The feeling of grace did not leave all the time that we were inside. In the middle of the temple there are two rows of comfortable wooden benches. People aged or for a number of reasons unable to stand for a long time can sit down. The service in the monastery twice a week: on Saturday evening, and on Sunday at 9.00.
Who has never been to this monastery, I strongly advise you to visit there. A salted place! To pray, to put candles. You can buy candles and icons at the monastery shop. I haven't seen such candles for a long time, they smell of honey and wax, and they look very different from those in our temples in Sochi.
You will not regret visiting this wonderful place.

Short clothes and bare shoulders are prohibited! In a separate room, you can write notes and buy candles, as well as icons. If you get to the divine service (liturgy), then it is unforgettable. Beautiful territory, olive trees grow. The only thing that struck me was the broken road at the entrance to the monastery.
