I've been there twice so far. A very nice, holy place, steeped in antiquity. You can stand on duty. Candles from 20 rubles!!! Icons are for sale. The simplest ones are somewhere in the region of 90 rubles. At the entrance, if you are wearing shorts, they give you special aprons, the girls are given handkerchiefs. All conditions have been created to make the parishioners feel comfortable. For example, I was not allowed to go to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. They said you can't wear knee-length shorts. They offered to rent trousers somewhere in the next building…
The New Athos Simon-Cananite Monastery is a majestic and sacred place. Such places are very attractive and finally I had a chance to visit here. The monastery's long history and architecture attract tourists all over the world. At the entrance, tourists must follow the rules of visiting the monastery, men must wear a skirt, which is issued there if the shorts are above the knee. It is very picturesque inside, there are many frescoes, you can take pictures and shoot videos. The main thing in such places is not to violate the rules of attendance and behavior.
It's a very beautiful place to live.Inside, everything is mesmerized by the atmosphere and antiquity of the object. The road for cars is bad, it is better to walk, the view is beautiful from the monastery to the city.
I recommend this place to everyone who has been to Abkhazia! To look at this place up close, at the hand-painted entire temple inside, at the view that opens onto the surrounding area. You won't regret it. There are a lot of fans in the temple, but this does not interfere with tourists either. If anything, then at the entrance they give out scarves and apron skirts, sell candles and so on
The monastery looks very beautiful externally, but inside there is still a lot of work to restore and restore.
We were pleased with the prices (donations) in the monastery shop. And the ability to pay by card through a bank terminal.
It is definitely worth visiting. You can drive to the monastery itself, but it is more interesting to climb the path through the cypress alley. By the way, it is more difficult to go down it on foot!
The monastery itself is very beautiful, although it requires renovation. There is also a good observation deck.
Beautifully maintained place. The silence is extraordinary in the Cathedral and suddenly - a quiet beautiful singing ...
And what frescoes!
A holy and wonderful place for the soul to rest.
The view from the height of it is fascinating! Bright! Smart! A holy place. The vibrations are healing. It is difficult to fully experience the tranquility of the place, there are a lot of tourists. It is ideal to drive out of season.
This is a special place for believers, but ordinary tourists will also like it here. It is better to visit together with the Anakopian fortress, the view of the monastery from the fortress is amazing.
They were allowed only into the central temple. The area was fenced off and it was impossible to pass. At the entrance, you can take handkerchiefs for women and men in shorts for free, because men and women are not allowed to wear shorts and bareheaded. Don't forget to return it when you exit. Inside, you can fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the early 20th century - historical shops, darkened frescoes and icons, gold painting on the walls. A small part of the temple has been restored. There are bullet marks on the walls, from the time of the Georgian-Abkhazian war.
He entered the territory from the service entrance, from the side of Stalin's dacha. It was open. The near building is in disrepair - the ceilings are destroyed, wine through the windows.
Beautiful😍 The complex itself needs renovation, but the location, architecture and style are simply gorgeous. Mountains, cypresses, the sea and a beautiful complex. I recommend watching it
We got there without excursions, but rented a car. From the center of Gagra, the trip took ~ 1 hour, then on foot uphill for about 10 minutes.
At the entrance, you are given handkerchiefs and skirts (for men and women), because people arriving at the temple do not understand where they are going.
There are signs in the temple itself that you can't take pictures, but everyone with cameras clicks.
Walls with drawings. The portraits of saints have been preserved, but the paint is flying off. There is a sale of candles, and you can leave notes about the health and repose of 100 rubles each, candles for 20 rubles and 100 rubles.
Nearby there is a toilet for a fee of 20 rubles, and kiosks with snacks and souvenirs.
If you go down to the right, you can go down to the waterfall.
Very beautiful inside and out. The monastery needs restoration, but even without it, all its splendor is visible. Female tourists wear aprons and handkerchiefs at the entrance. A good church shop. There are very beautiful frescoes inside the temple.
A beautiful, picturesque place. I advise you to visit the monastery. Prayers are read with full awareness, with the soul, it is already fascinating. There are many places to take photos. On one side is the sea, on the other the mountains.
Hello, the monastery has been awarded a visit of 1000% to be honest, it is crowded, there is a lot of tourist transport, this of course cannot but strain. When you go into the monostyrb and look at all its beauty, you hear the choir singing behind the altar, you get carried away somewhere and you just want to stay and the problems go away by themselves. Beautiful views from the observation deck. Below there are stalls with all sorts of small things and products. The place is holy and of course tourist. It's worth a look!
The monastery is quite small, the service is in Russian and Abkhaz.Amazing singing combined with the acoustics of the temple, you definitely need comfortable shoes with non-slip soles! The ascent to the monastery is quite steep. The monastery is located on a mountain. The monastery square offers a magnificent view of the sea and the surrounding city. The monastery itself impresses with its splendor and grandeur. And this attracts huge crowds of tourists and pilgrims. Unfortunately, the temples of the monastery require restoration and restoration work - time is merciless even to shrines. Be sure to visit the monastery if you are in New Athos.
A majestic monastery. A large area. Only the main temple works. It's very beautiful inside. Ancient icons. Amazing atmosphere. You can sit and listen to spiritual music. Be sure to be in a long skirt and a covered head and men in trousers. The temple is closed on Monday. The road to the monastery is very heavy. 600 meters uphill, off-road. It is better to take water with you. And comfortable shoes. There is a park with olive and laurel trees around the monastery. I highly recommend visiting
An amazing place with its own atmosphere and energy. The seals on the territory are pleasing. The walls of the monastery are soothing, the view of the sea is soothing
Great location for a photo! The interior is very beautiful, with excellent views from the height. There is simply stunning beauty inside!but what year have I been coming and still reconstruction…
As always, everything is clean! Cozy! Beautiful! Special thanks to the man at the entrance, who always warns about headscarves and an apron, which you must not forget to wear to the temple.
Somehow, our trip to Abkhazia this time coincided with the fact that we see everywhere that some kind of restoration is underway. The same thing is here, the central gate seems to be with scaffolding, repairs are underway. Unfortunately, we did not get to the monastery itself.. We arrived on the day when it was a day off.. It's a shame that there is no information in sight and hearing anywhere when the weekend is over... Therefore, I advise you to clarify the weekend schedule before going there on your own. There is an old government cottage nearby, you can go there.. Entrance to the territory is paid.. 100 rubles or 50 rubles... But again, you walk cleanly down the street to enter the building - you need to pay more
A very cool place, it offers a beautiful view of the Black Sea. The temple itself is striking in its splendor. Ancient frescoes have been preserved in the interior
It's a beautiful place. I recommend. It's fascinating. It's better to watch it yourself than on TV. The view of the surroundings is beautiful. I'll find more photos from another place on the monastery.
I liked the interior, the church itself, the ancient ceiling paintings, the faces of saints on the walls. Burning candles, a central chandelier, and in general, the general atmosphere and the surrounding nature left an indelible impression.
A wonderful place in every way. It is best to walk from the bottom. Landscapes, rocks, cypresses, and even shopping malls - everything is fine there. And the sound of cicadas..
A very beautiful and picturesque place, I recommend a mandatory visit to Abkhazia. Gorgeous viewing platforms overlooking the sea! You won't regret it!
What can I say, you need to see and see for yourself) On November 24th, we visited for the last time. The main half, as it was 20 years ago, is closed to prying eyes, but believers and just good people have something to look at (I mean the painting inside the monastery). You can also purchase various church items.Plus, we've already looked at the market right there on the road to the monastery) Beautiful view from above! !
It is a very beautiful and attractive place, with powerful energy. And there is also Stalin's Dacha nearby, although in an abandoned state, not like at the Ritz. But it is also a very picturesque place.
A beautiful monastery that will give you a lot of emotions. From ordinary beauty to spiritual catharsis! A recording of the Byzantine choir is playing inside the temple, which takes you back to the time of the empire!
A holy place. It is a pity that the leadership turned away from the Russian Orthodox Church. I'm truly sorry. I hope that this too will pass. I went there three times. After all, walls, icons and stones remember and preserve history. There is a twofold feeling inside that you see how everything is being destroyed, since there is not enough money to restore everything, and on the other hand, after the restoration, you will lose the feeling that you are stepping on the same stones as our kings and monks walked more than 100 years ago, thanks to whom this monastery There is. Not the usual painting of the dome in the name of the Holy Trinity. Whatever it is, the Most Holy Theotokos is invisibly present there.
It is very beautiful, it feels like a special place, a place of power. You can sit in the temple and listen to chants/prayers. It is a pity that it is not being restored, although this has its own charm.
There was a very beautiful monastery in July 2024, restoration is underway. It's nice to stay in it, sit and think about the eternal. It is necessary to see for yourself. If you come to Abkhazia, be sure to visit.
We went to Abkhazia in the summer, of course, we couldn't help but visit the Holy Athos monastery. The monastery is magnificent. The frescoes are painted, very beautiful old Churches are constantly chanting.A blessed place. You can also order a guide there.
A salted place. Such tranquility on the territory of the monastery. You feel protected. The church architecture is very beautiful. It is definitely necessary to visit.
One of my favorite places on the coast.
Quiet, clean, awesome views. The monastery itself is striking in its inner grandeur.
There are a lot of kind, affectionate cats and dogs around.
Chat with the artist Zaur, who sits at the entrance to the monastery) Will shower you with jokes and sayings))
A beautiful, energetically strong place. Must-visit
It is definitely worth a visit, but the interior of the temple requires restoration, there are no questions about the territory, cleanliness, beauty, free Parking! Which is rare for Abkhazia.
It is very impressive for its beauty and painting! You can sit and immerse yourself in memories, thinking about your loved ones. There is a very beautiful view of the sea from the territory!
Recently I went to Abkhazia with friends. Gagra, Gudauta, New Athos, Pitsunda, Sukhum.
The last time I was in the New Athos Monastery was in Soviet times. The restoration of the complex has begun from the main temple: the basement has been drained, the facade has been painted, the domes are covered with gold. Inside the temple, the sight is, of course, sad. The frescoes on the walls are peeling off. Despite this, angelic singing is quietly heard inside the temple, as if from heaven. The feeling of grace did not leave all the time that we were inside. In the middle of the temple there are two rows of comfortable wooden benches. People aged or for a number of reasons unable to stand for a long time can sit down. The service in the monastery twice a week: on Saturday evening, and on Sunday at 9.00.
Who has never been to this monastery, I strongly advise you to visit there. A salted place! To pray, to put candles. You can buy candles and icons at the monastery shop. I haven't seen such candles for a long time, they smell of honey and wax, and they look very different from those in our temples in Sochi.
You will not regret visiting this wonderful place.
The monastery itself is impressive, of course.
But I do not recommend buying something from merchants around him. I bought lavrushka, churchkhella and tkemali sauce there. I threw out the lavrushka because most of it was eaten by aphids, I threw out the churchkhella, because it was put in a cellophane bag by the evening in a hot bus, it was just covered with mold and seemed to ferment because it smelled strongly of wine. One tkemali sauce turned out to be good. As a result, the impression of the trip to the monastery was spoiled.
A place where the soul sings, where you want to be. Be sure to attend the Sunday service, be sure to buy real wax candles, their warmth and aroma will long remind you of New Athos. The monastery is of amazing beauty.
It is a pity that much has been lost and closed to the public, I really wanted to create a holistic image.
A beautiful place, the soul opens up and breathes. The place is not affected by modernity, and civilizations, thanks to this, has its own zest. The place is amazing in any season.
There is something to see! And a cave with stalactites and stalagmites, and a fortress on a mountain with magnificent views of the sea and mountains, and a monastery. We were in Abkhazia in our car, so we looked at almost everything during the day. I advise you to visit New Athos!
I really liked the monastery, it is large, ancient and powerful, I advise everyone who will be in Abkhazia to visit it. It is advisable to climb the stairs of sinners to the monastery.
We expected more..
The heat is at the top, there are a lot of people in August, only one temple is open, there is basically nowhere to walk around the territory, for one trip
At the entrance to the monastery there is an icon shop, candles and icons
And they give skirts to everyone, especially men in shorts above the knees
Restoration is urgently needed.
The interior is beautiful and there are benches. It's nice to sit and watch. I'm not a pilgrim at all, I need to see the architectural and cultural ensemble.
It is a spiritually beautiful place, inside it was not photographed from the outside, but there is a photo. In general, as long as I have been in monasteries or temples, it is always quiet and calm in my soul, even somehow easier. This place at the end of the tour is just what you need to be inspired upon returning home. You should definitely visit this monastery if possible.
A very blessed place, prayed for. The monastery is located in a very picturesque area, on a hill and impresses with its architecture. In sunny weather, the domes are visible from afar. The monastery is beautiful, especially the paintings inside. There are headscarves and special skirts at the entrance (for those who have not prepared for visiting the temple). Short clothes and bare shoulders are prohibited! In a separate room, you can write notes and buy candles, as well as icons. If you get to the divine service (liturgy), then it is unforgettable. Beautiful territory, olive trees grow. The only thing that struck me was the broken road at the entrance to the monastery.
An amazing and amazing monastery! As soon as I stepped inside, tears began to flow by themselves! And then my teenage daughter! A powerful salted place...The patron saint is Saint Pantelemon! It is to him that one should turn with prayers for health. He is a holy healer. Beautiful singing inside the temple. Comfortable benches, which are never found in Orthodox churches...everything disposes to pacification, spiritual purification, and participation in the sacrament. Thanks!
The monastery is filled with a special atmosphere.
They only let you into the temple. There you can sit and enjoy the atmosphere, as well as look at the murals on the walls to the sounds of the recording of the service, which is broadcast after its completion. Candles must be purchased in advance at the entrance. The cost is 20 and 50 rubles per piece.
