Museums in Georgia are overpriced and I always get out of them very disappointed. The National Gallery of Georgia develops over two levels and, while one might still find it interesting to have a look, it is really difficult to understand how can such a lively country with sunny landscapes, good food and nice people, can produce this art which is made mainly of grotesque figures, or depressive portraits of the city or the people.
We were with the whole family in early August 2024.
These are excellent exhibition spaces with wonderful expositions, 4 stars because THERE are FEW. We expected more.
With the richness of the Georgian cultural heritage, it is a straight "thin soup". That's why there are few visitors. It does not pull at the national .... Slight disappointment ...
There were also exhibitions of very minor artists. As a result, everything together is not a "must have"
Thanks to the curators and good luck, further raising the bar!
For a deeper understanding of the culture, spirit and mood of Georgia, it is strongly recommended to visit two galleries: the National Gallery and the Gallery of Modern Art, which are located nearby. However, it is better to take a short break between visits to feel the difference between generations. Your emotions will certainly be exciting! Personally, I was deeply impressed and surprised by the talent of Georgian artists and sculptors!
