Definitely worth a small hook from the road to Altyn Emel or Taldykorgan! I really love small museums away from megacities - there are many surprises in them. The Chokan Museum was amazing in its scope: a beautiful ensemble of the museum building, park and monument on a hill. The building itself is in the spirit of constructivism, very modern and unusual, and even won some kind of international competition. One of the exhibits was impressed by the tapestry on the entire wall. The exposition is quite informative, reveals the scale of Chokan Valikhanov's scientific discoveries. I highly recommend reading his writings about traveling in Semirechye before visiting Shanghai. You perceive the museum and the surrounding landscapes of Arkharly, Altyn Emel and the Kugali Valley in a completely different way. A man from the distant past with a dim picture from a textbook suddenly became somehow close and dear. It's a pity they didn't take us here in our school years. Special thanks to the museum staff for an interesting tour, kindness and friendliness!
