The bust monument to Pavel Melnikov was installed in November 2014 on the square near the railway station. For the first time in official documents, the town of Shumilino, which was formed near and thanks to the railway station (formerly called Sirotino), was mentioned just in connection with the opening of railway traffic on the Dinaburg —Vitebsk section of the Rigo-Oryol railway. Pavel Melnikov reported to the Emperor about this significant event, which took place on October 17, 1866. Pavel Petrovich Melnikov was an engineer-general, honorary member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the author of the first Russian book on railways and the first technical conditions for station design. The monument to Pyotr Melnikov is the only one in Belarus.
