A very beautiful old building. The interior is perfectly preserved. there is a free parking lot. ancient icons have been preserved. there is a constant large number of visitors. The monastery's location offers a beautiful view of the city of Mtskheta.
It offers one of the best views in Georgia. You will see the city of Mtskheta with the majestic Svetitskhoveli Temple and the confluence of the colorful Kura and Aragvi rivers.
If you have already reached Mtskheta, then you should definitely visit this place. We used taxi services in the town itself, the trip cost 20 GEL.
As I understand it, this building is considered the oldest in the country.
The monastery and temple of the first half of the 7th century, is located on the top of a mountain at the confluence of two rivers Kura and Aragvi near Mtskheta-where the Holy equal-to-the-Apostles Nina historically erected a cross. Jvari is the first World Heritage Monument in Georgia (since 1994), the temple is a large tetraconch-shaped church consecrated in honor of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, Jvari, along with the neighboring Zedazen Monastery, is considered the setting of Lermontov's poem "Mtsyri".
This amazing place is called Jvari. It is difficult to drive past it, except out of ignorance. But if you don't visit it, consider that you haven't been to Georgia.
It offers stunning views of Mtskheta and the confluence of two rivers — the Aragvi and the Kura. For those who like to take pictures, I recommend coming here in the morning. In the evening, the sun and shadows from the temple can prevent you from taking high-quality pictures.
Art historians are still arguing about which monastery served as the prototype for the creation of the poem "Mtsyri" — Jvari or Svetitskhoveli. But the spirit of the poem is definitely present here.
There is a caretaker at the temple — a holy woman, I think her name is also Nino. She will tell you all about the history, architecture and secrets of the temple, show you the places where you can not go. And she also sells candles of happiness with an angel. Be sure to purchase them and thank this place and her.
A sacred place of Georgia, sung by many Russian poets and visited by almost all tourists. An ancient temple on a high mountain, which offers a magnificent view of the "streams of Aragva and Kura" merging in this place, and the town of Mtskheta with the huge Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, where, according to legend, the chiton of Jesus Christ is kept.
Nicely. They were in 2018 and 2024,
There are more tourists and handkerchiefs with the sale of tourist baubles, food..Basically, everything is 5-10 GEL.
Large parking lot. Types of shaking
The beautiful decoration of Jvari and the stunning view of the confluence of the Kura and Aragvi rivers.
There is a healing spring below at the place where Saint Nino prayed.
I recommend.
One of the most beautiful places in Georgia. The lines from "Mtsyri" come to life before our eyes. Be sure to include this place in your visit plan. Describing beauty is a thankless task, it's still impossible to convey what the eyes see. Come here and enjoy, you won't regret it
We went up to the monastery, it is located on a mountain, the view of Mtskheta and the confluence of two rivers is impressive. The monastery is very old and popular with tourists, there are many of them.
The temple is gradually being restored. There is a powerful sense of the course of history, of eternity in this place. A beautiful landscape road leads to the temple. A wonderful place of power.
It is very beautiful and exciting, you can feel the history intertwined with reality, the spiritual power of this place, plus a very rich landscape nearby, definitely worth a visit
It's insanely crowded, it's hard to be alone with your thoughts. But the views of the surrounding area are beautiful, unless you have to wait in line to see or take a picture
A few years ago,
Where, merging, they make noise,
Hugging like two sisters,
Streams of Aragva and Chickens,
There was a monastery. Because of the mountain
And now a pedestrian sees it
The pillars of the collapsed gate,
Both the towers and the church vault...
Mtsyri. Lermontov M.Y. 1839
A historical and sacred place, incredible views from observation decks, easy access, close proximity to parking.
Of the minuses, I would only mention the incredible number of vandals who marked themselves, who left scars on the body of the Temple, as well as the total amount of garbage on the territory.
In such iconic places, in my opinion, it is necessary to charge a minimum entrance fee to keep the place clean and limit the flow of marginals who came here not for emotions, but to leave their mark.
I strongly recommend it
A historical place. The spirit and appearance are strong. View of the entire old capital. Very simple and fundamental. The construction technology is unique. A must-visit
It's a beautiful place. Definitely worth a visit. One of the most important places in Georgia. The building has been partially reconstructed.
The view that opens from this place to the confluence of two rivers is simply magnificent.
It's not difficult to get there. We were driving our own car, the road is good. There are also guided tours to the monastery
It's more like a lonely temple than a monastery. A symbol of the whole of Georgia, an extraordinary beauty. It is mandatory to visit. Beautiful views of Mtskheta open from here.
On my first trip to Georgia, I never got to this place. I corrected this misunderstanding for the second time. From here there is a stunning view of the confluence of two rivers, we did not go inside the monastery, walked around the territory, took a photo. From Tbilisi literally half an hour by car. Despite the large number of people, there were no problems with parking. I recommend the place to visit!
Restored, very gentrified, clean, bright, constantly tour groups, beautiful gates from the outside, there is a whole boulevard for tourists on the street nearby.
An incredibly atmospheric place! Absolutely worthy of a visit, a special pleasure is provided by the views that you can admire endlessly while sitting on huge stones.
A place for a mandatory visit. The history of the temple is unique and tragic. The important thing is that we can worship the shrine of this temple in our time. The views around the temple are divine. The place is significant for Christians. It is said about him by M. Y. Lermontov in the poem "Mtsyri".
It's a great place. The view is amazing. A place of power, as they say. I recommend you to visit.. A great place to take photos and explore the city. Very beautiful
This is a very beautiful, ancient and significant place. Not far from Tbilisi. From above there is a very beautiful view of the confluence of 2 rivers. It is better to take a guide.
Anyone who has read "Mtsyri" will understand me. The view from this monastery is amazing. Below you will see how two rivers merge. You immediately remember the lines:
A few years ago,
Where, merging, they make noise,
Hugging like two sisters,
Streams of Aragva and Chickens,
There was a monastery. Because of the mountain
And now a pedestrian sees ....
Fabulously.
A very beautiful place in Mukheta - from the height of the Monastery of the Holy Cross, you can see the confluence of the Kura and Aragvi rivers and the whole of Mtskheta in the palm of your hand. Be sure to come up! I recommend it!
The monastery is located on a mountain and two rivers Kura and Aragvi merge at the bottom. A very interesting place. If you are in Georgia, be sure to visit it
An atmospheric place with a good, convenient entrance, asphalt all the way to the top.
From the observation deck there is a beautiful view of the city and the place where the Aragvi flows into the Kura.
A very beautiful place, the confluence of two rivers! It is important if you arrived by yourself, by taxi, do not let the driver go, then wait a very long time or you will leave with the locals more expensive than Yandex taxi
A beautiful place overlooking the confluence of two rivers Aragvi and Kura, as well as the former capital of Georgia Mtskheta, admission is free, many tourists say that minibuses go, but we did not find it, we got from the Marjanishvili metro station for 17 lari by taxi, I advise!!!
View, panorama of the Caucasus Mountains at the confluence of the Kura and Aragvi sung by M.Y. Lermontov! Beautiful view of the ancient capital of Georgia Mtskheta. Well, the presence in the monastery of Jvari - the heart of Georgia will be remembered forever!
A beautiful place like the whole nature of Georgia

This is the beauty that opens from the Jvari monastery, it is breathtaking, so easy and beautiful, different views open from different sides, in summer you can relax in the shade of trees or on the other side of the monastery there is a playground in the shade, refreshing.
Lermontov "Mtsyri" has nothing to add.
Re-read the work after visiting this holy place - everything will sparkle with new colors and you will plunge into the past of this place.

This is a place of power, salted, where every stone is saturated with history and epochs. I definitely recommend getting there. You can get to Mtskheta, and any taxi driver will take you there and back from the center for 20 GEL and will wait for you there for 30 minutes and treat you to homemade wine near the lake.
The place is a must-visit, beautiful views of Mtskheta and the confluence of the two great rivers Aragvi and Kura, Lermontov himself was fascinated and captivated by this nature.
