An amazing place, breathing history. The oldest Christian buildings in Georgia are located here, dating back to the IV century after the birth of Christ. There is a bus from the foot of the mountain to the monastery and back, because the ascent is steep, but I don't know if it's a paid bus or not - we walked, even if it's long and tedious. The monastery offers a wonderful view of the Alazani Valley.
It's not a very well-known tourist destination, but it's definitely worth a visit.

Excellent view of the Alazani Valley 👍 If you are not traveling with a large company, keep in mind that the bus will take you to the monastery only if there are 10 passengers, otherwise you will be asked to pay extra for 10 people.

A very steep climb.
"Nekresi" is called, and not something else.
Now the pros:
The oldest Christian monastery.
The view from there is amazing.
You can ask the monks and they will tell you the history of the monastery.
Candles can be asked for free.
It was conquered and desecrated by the Persians.
I bought oil (fir) here, fragrant, inexpensive. In Israel, I took oil much more expensive.

An amazing place and stunning views of the valley! The ascent by minibuses is 3 lari. I recommend visiting in the morning, while no one is there and you can drive your car, but the road is very steep!

The monastery is located on a mountain. The road is very scenic but with very steep climbs. When it's snowing, I think it will be extremely difficult to get up. But it's worth it. The monastery offers a magnificent view of the Kakheti valley. You can only visit the temple itself. Because you can't go into the monastery. The monastery is active. The place is very ancient. The monastery of Nekresi. You can get there by car, then either walk one and a half km uphill to the top, or take the monastery bus. The bus costs GEL 3 and carries at least 10 people. Life hack: you can buy 10 tickets and you will be taken immediately. Tourists are waiting for 30 minutes upstairs. During this time, you will be able to see and capture everything. The monastery is not big, it is ancient. The driver drives up and down at the same speed, so those who are afraid of heights and streamers will not be afraid. Great place!

Nekresi Monastery, 4th century A.D. you can read a lot about the temple itself and a lot of places. therefore, about my impressions, the steep road up on a hot August day is tiring, but we coped. there is supposedly a "bus" running, but not for that and on a floating schedule. The grandfather at the wheel of this motorcycle sees and hears nothing, neither forgotten tourists, nor the remarks of passengers. There is no water upstairs, but there is wine made by monks. we were even shown numerous photos as proof that the monks make it themselves. stunning view of the Alazani valley.

If you love ancient architecture and beautiful views, then be sure to visit the monastery.
You can walk 1.5 km, but the way uphill, even on asphalt, is very tedious.
It is possible to take a bus, but it departs when boarding from 10 people and costs 3 GEL. It is better to wait for other visitors and take the bus, after 10 a.m. tourists periodically come.

If you have a desire to reach the complex from the parking lot on foot, then enjoy the beautiful views, there is no need to be afraid, the walking path will overcome. The question of "what faith" is somewhat alarming, but this does not particularly spoil the feeling of visiting this place. I recommend you to visit.

The bus costs GEL 3 per person, it is written that it carries from 10 people every 30 minutes, in fact, with us it went back and forth several times every 10 minutes, then left the gate, apparently for a break.
It feels like walking up for at least an hour, and after such a climb, no views will impress. The slope is very steep, there is almost no shade, climbing uphill in the heat is not much fun.
The monastery itself is very beautiful, the views are incredible, many times better than from the neighboring Gremi :)
