I flew from Dubai to Shymkent airport twice, but it was a long time ago, last year my sister and her family flew to Turkey, went out to meet my nephew, the airport is changing for the better, but much more needs to be done to bring Shymkent airport to a new level to meet international standards. One of the worst airports I've ever been to. It looks more like a small bus station than an international airport. The dining room is located separately, there are no sensible grocery stores or cafes in the building itself. A more or less normal waiting room is only in the international flight area. The rest is a bazaar.
A separate remark to the border guard, who for some reason, asking questions during passport verification and registration, allows himself to "poke" a stranger. I didn't remember his name - he looks like Bishimbayev. With my question about how much cash I was carrying, I probably thought that I would share it with him, hinting at a bribe from scratch. A completely inappropriate question. This has never been asked anywhere. In general, unpleasant types work here.
Those who complain about the old terminal of Almaty airport have probably never been to Shymkent. I hope I won't have to visit Shymkent again. Such people spoil the whole impression.

Well, to be honest, it's not very comfortable and clean, the waiting room stinks of cigarette smoke due to the fact that the smoking room is apparently incorrectly located and ventilation does not work. Small, mostly traffic on the ground floor. 4 check-in counters, 2 exits. Separate building for arrivals and baggage, 2 exits for domestic and international flights. Of course, it is small for a city of millions, but we are waiting for the opening of a new airport, which is being completed nearby.

We arrived at 3 o'clock in the morning. At least the guard was left on duty. Otherwise, not a soul. Scary.
You could use a repair. Many international flights fly through Shymkent. The face of the city, but so terrible.

The old Shymkent airport terminal is just trash! When leaving the arrival area (a separate building), an inconvenient door handle almost tore off my fingers. The building where the waiting room is a tiny toilet, a oak tree inside. There are no amenities: It is almost impossible to charge the phone. There is no WiFi. But there is a paid massage chair in the waiting room. In general, it's a sad place.

The staff is unfriendly - when checking in for a flight, the Ramp was given seats randomly (they checked in an hour and a half before the flight). An emergency alarm (probably a fire alarm) was constantly sounding in the waiting room, there was no landing announcement, no one explained which flight. The impression is that the new terminal has not been launched, and the old one has already stopped discussing passengers, while they do not forget to include the service fee in the ticket price
