Registration and inspection are quick, without unnecessary delays, the staff is polite and tries to help. However, the waiting areas could be more comfortable — there are not enough seats, especially during rush hour. The prices of food and drinks in the cafe are clearly overpriced, and the choice is not the most diverse. But, in general, the airport copes with its task, although it is still far from ideal.

We spent about 12 hours at Shymkent airport, a very interesting experience for zoomers without currency with them. A comfortable massage chair in which you can sleep for 12 minutes, if you fold up like an embryo, there is an outlet nearby, so you can play fool online or Subway surf all night. Special respect for the blue chairs for a good sleep from 3 to 6 hours. It smelled delicious from the coffee shop, it's a pity we didn't have money, we're poor students... it was very nice to stand in the boarding queue, a lot of people stuck to each other, it felt so good to be surrounded by love, everyone was trying to snuggle closer to each other to feel the warmth of the soul... the man who kicked he obviously wanted to say something, it's a pity that he didn't say anything, but it's not his fault... we dream that there would be free water at the airport, it's hard without currency... minus one star, because the second massage chair squeaked when you sit on it. There are places to understand correctly, but for an airport with so many air hubs and transfer points, this is not enough, the airport itself is also very small and was obviously forgotten in the process of modernization of Kazakhstan. Flights are often delayed and therefore people in very difficult conditions have to wait for hours. For all those who are in limbo, a life hack is literally 5-8 minutes by car from the airport, there are simple inexpensive guest houses. It is best to take a room in them for the night. Go to the room with the whole family and sleep together on a double bed until it's time for the rescheduled flight. And for one thing, if you have time to have breakfast at the hotel and as a B&B, you can also arrange a free transfer to and from the airport

For such a large city with its agglomeration, of course, a larger airport is needed, but this old Soviet airport is well renovated, located relatively close to the city limits. Overall it is nice, cozy, compact. The square, sidewalks, and driveway are in good condition. There were no problems with calling a taxi. International flights from the airport are accepted and depart, the runway allows. It's a little cramped for passengers in the boarding gate area, it would be good to allocate a separate corridor for passengers with young children, otherwise some people experience severe stress before flights from their screaming and crying.

We flew on a night flight from Almaty to Antalya. There is not much space, I managed to sleep on the benches for 30 minutes at night. Then a lot of people packed up for the flight. When passing through passport control, be prepared to face rudeness and lack of any manners when communicating with passengers. This is a real test of nerve strength. I recommend passing silently and not reacting to the inappropriate behavior of employees.
At pegasus, things are weighed with hand scales. So if you are unlucky and you have an advantage, eat another portion of rudeness.
From the good: there is a store with normal prices, where they don't seem to be rude. And a cafe, but I didn't take any chances here.

In general, it is not bad, but the waiting room is very small, there is not really a store, there are some stalls. The customs did not have a correct database at all, they were detained for 3 hours and charged with dual citizenship, their passports were taken away, they did not want to listen to anything, they threatened to sue until they found a certificate that they had given the passport to the embassy 2 years ago, but this was not entered in their database. A lot of wasted nerves. Why should it be my problem? That's the kind of hospitality....

We flew to Almaty with a transfer in Shymkent. It's a real disaster. Small, crowded, at 3 am, everything is piled up, in the waiting room, if you can call it that, everyone is sleeping in a habit, there are packages of water, cookies on the side, someone is sitting on them.
Hot. However, there is a cafe at the entrance on the left, no one came in there, a pleasant girl is napping, we took a coffee cup. No one comes in. True, the tile fell off the wall with a crash onto our table, but it was probably on purpose so that we wouldn't doze off)) They were scared .We went out into the street as it blossomed, there is not much to go to the highway, parking, a small square. Shops but it smells of the East, birds are singing.
It is better to fly straight without a transfer.

They announced registration, handed over their suitcases, but there are no customs and border guards... Within an hour, one person came to check the documents.
It seems to be an international airport... It feels like a collective farm hangar with airplanes.
The only plus in all the heat and stuffiness without seats is the presence of a smoke arena, for which an asterisk was put.

The airport building is small, morally and physically outdated, parking is very small, the reception area is generally dead, there are no facilities for greeters, all windows are covered with films, 3 benches and one coffee machine for waiting when it is cold, it is very inconvenient since the doors open immediately to the street and cold air enters this room directly, there are several departure terminals in the building itself, but they are extremely inconvenient, since there are other luggage packing machines, check-in counters, etc. in the lobby of the building. And this is all in a small room, if there are several flights, then people like at the bazaar cannot breathe, and it is impossible to sit down somewhere at all. the worst airport and attitude to people!
in the international "terminal", upon arrival, a smoking room WITHOUT VENTILATION is made in the corner!!! all the stench goes into the main room, and valiant guards in the form of customs control drive those who arrive into the building, not allowing them to wait outside in the fresh air or even at the open door. they even defiantly threaten to close the door - blocking the only air access to the created gas chamber!
PLEASE remove the smoking room or make normal ventilation and poison people!!! provide a sufficient number of employees who are able to work adequately and quickly in case of arrival of two simultaneous flights!
