The arch is an interesting architectural structure. A historical monument, the arch was built in the second half of the 18th century in honor of the arrival of the Russian Empress Catherine the Great to the city to meet with the Austrian Emperor Joseph II. In Soviet times, the arch was restored and decorated in a new way. On it you can see memorial plaques listing the units and formations of the Red Army that defended and liberated Mogilev during the Great Patriotic War.
I must say that the residents of Mogilev, and I too, are so used to this arch that they do not even notice it. I once read the information written on it a long time ago, but I forgot it. I stopped recently and reread it: it turns out to be interesting.
