An amazing and very beautiful place, a unique symbiosis of the creation of nature and man.
We took a tour where the guide talked in detail about how it was built. There are several viewing platforms on the territory so that you can see from different angles
This is amazing!!!! such a combination of beauty and architecture, history, I am delighted, the only thing a little annoying is a very large number of steps, it's a little hard for the untrained, but it's worth it!!! I definitely advise you!!
The Great Meteor Monastery, the Great Meteor (Greek: Μεγάλον ΜετέΩρον) is a monastery in honor of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Greece, the largest and oldest Orthodox monastery among the Meteors, founded at the beginning of the XIV century by monk Athanasius on one of the Meteor rocks in Thessaly near the village of Kastracion[el] in the community of Meteora. In 1988, the Great Meteora Monastery, among other Meteora monasteries, was included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Greece.
There are 154 steps leading to the top of the cliff. The first buildings that meet on the way are a castle with a balcony and a former monastery compound. Recently, a folklore museum was opened in the warehouse, where ancient tools and utensils of the monasteries are collected. A little above the folklore museum is the Cathedral. There is also an altar nearby and a hospital located opposite it. There are two chapels on the right side of the Cathedral.
The Megalo Meteora is a complex of buildings from the post-Byzantine period, which have remained intact to this day, creating a complete picture of the life of the ancient monastery.
